Dells Alienware desktops, are advitised as the most powerful gaming pcs, however i have discovered the the USA alienwares are more powerful than the UK/Europe alinwares. For example:
The USA version of the Alienware Area 51 ALX has PROCESSOR Overclocked Intel® Core™ i7 990x Extreme Six Core Processor (4.0GHz, 12MB Cache) MEMORY 12GB DDR3 1333MHz (3x 4GB) Tri Channel Memory. However in the UK, you can only get the Intel® Core™ Core i7-980x (3.33GHz 12MB 6.4GT/sec) processor and 1600MHz (3x2GB) Tri Channel Memory RAM.
The USA version costs around £4000
where as the less powerful UK version costs about £5100
The only difference between these two computers is that the cheaper usa version has better processor and better ram, but it is cheaper. Uk buyer are getting swindled out of £1100 for a pc that is less powerful. how does this work!
I was going to buy one, but knowing that im paying more for a lot less, it doesn't seem worth it any more.
Thanks,
Nathan

and are you keying in tax differences/rebates into your price difference?0
-
yes i have done all of that.
and even if with the extra tax and delivery it cam to the same price, the USA version would still be the better buy! Because of the higher specs and extra freebies!
Uk get free keyboard and mouse
USA get free keyboard and mouse, mouse pad and a alienware hat.0 -

£5100  seroiusly ?
I thought I was pushing the boat out with a £500 upgrade :rotfl::rotfl:“That old law about 'an eye for an eye' leaves everybody blind. The time is always right to do the right thing.”0 -
You can go as high as nearly £7000, however base price for the best (well in the UK) Alienware Area 51 ALX is £2999.
Its a lot but I like them! But refuse to get one until the Uk version comes in-line with the USA version, which is twice as good and cheaper.0 -
and a alienware hat.
this thread is worth the price of admission for this part alone
Hard to consider Alienware products in terms of 'value for money' in the first place, but lots of things are relatively cheaper in the US than here. They do have more people there. How does cost of living factor into things? Also cost of transporting parts to the UK vs the US? Genuine questions, I don't know the answers.0 -
What a ridiculous amount of money to pay for a gaming computer.0

Rip off Britain
Most items (like for like) are cheaper in the USA than the UK, this is another case in point.
Personally, I think you can build a better PC for a much lower cost, even £2000 should get you set up very nicely.0 -
for 4 grand I could buy enough cars to make me look like a drug dealer.
EDIT:
but seriously, I was looking for a usb 3.0 pc and een one on ebay for a mere 900 quid - PC Quad Core i7 950, 24GB, ATI 5450 1gb, USB 3.0
which I was wondering if it was decent value.

I have absolutely no idea about the high-end stuff.0 -
from alienware a few years ago you could buy a cossfire beast (2 ATI graphics cards in one PC) off them
just one major problem, they were mated to a nvidia motherboard (which only support SLI) meaning you had just wasted £600 on a worthless 2nd GPU.
also if you can build your own computer it works out much much much cheaper, you get the satisfaction that you built it, and you get zero crapware - a proper enthusiast install of the OS and all software.0 -
ah but you all forget the Alienware guarantee - buy a computer from them for over £2000 and your epenis will grow by at least 100%Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0
