Car Insurance - what a rip-off!

Just a brief rant really......I used a comparison website to get a quote last week with the best one coming in at £212. 5 others were with £30 of this price. I had to re-submit the identical details today and the cheapest quote was £317. 3 quotes were with £20 of this with the next one £80 more expensive. What is the justification for this? My details and vehicle haven't changed over the last week and, consequently, I am no greater risk to these companies! I hate being ripped off, especially when you know you can do absolutely nothing about it.

Also, anyone have an idea why Third Party Only prices are more expensive than Third Party Fire and Theft. Seems totally bizarre to me!

I hate car insurance too. Its a total rip off.

Although if you got a quote last week you should be able to go back to it, most are valid for around 14days. Go back into the comparison sites you tried (normally they bombard you with emails anyway, especially as the renewal date comes closer or the quote is due to expire) and get the quote ref from that. Should then be able to go to the insurer and use that ref and get last weeks price.

Maybe went up because of the Europe ruling (no way do i think mens will decrease aprox 10% we'll all pay even more again) although i got my renewal before that and its doubled in price for seemingly no reason this year!

I hate them because after you've paid over £800 for a year's insurance they still can't be bothered to get off their backsides and do anything for you!

Yeh thanks! My point is......50% increase for nothing! I'm a very low risk to these companies so I can only imagine how bad things will be when my kids start to drive.

All previous quotes had expired (in 7 days) so no joy with getting them to honour the original prices.

Moral of the story is to use the comparison site, then go the the best offer and get a formal quote. They are valid for a few weeks.

£80 thats better in his/her pocket then the insurance companies. Not exactly the best attitude on a money saving forum.

Its an example of how they profiteer, how you can go up or down hundreds of pounds in some cases in days calculated on risk is a joke. The system is broken.

    Explain please.
  • I used a comparison site and only 2 options came up which I thought was a bit weird, cheapest £400ish, so I searched again, a different 2 came up, cheapest £500. I searched again as something was obviosuly wrong, NOTHING came up.

So it happens I just think it's who is available to quote at that time. have you got your original quote search saved or a quote reference number you can use for the previous, cheaper quote?
