The Metro is overground between Jesmond and Gosforth so it might not be as claustrophobic as you think. It's only underground through Newcastle city centre and Gateshead. No idea on prices but think you can buy a weekly pass for unlimited travel on buses and the Metro.
Ironically the Metro doesn't go to the Metrocentre?! You'll need to get a bus or you can get there by mainline trains. Here I go again on my own....0 -
Wow, that's good to know. I did read it was overground in some parts- so that may be the answer. I also found the 58 only takes abt 10 mins from Sandyford Road, going all way to Grainger Street and beyond. Looks like the hub of things is round about there, New Bridge Street and Westgate? As I say, just been doing my more detailed research over last couple days...and finding where to go to spend wisely! Lol.0

Thank you for the welcome. The Metro rail works on zonal pricing. The Newcastle area from South Gosforth to south of Gateshead is all regarded as a single zone.A single zone journey would be £1.50. Monthly passes can be bought for £33. Have a look at the operator's website at nexus (dot) org (dot) uk - sorry still too young to put up links - and you'll get the full zonal map and prices.0

Thanks, that's not bad pricing actually for a major city. Am pretty impressed. I am getting a feeling it won't be too difficult to naviagte,as compared to some places. I have gotten myself a bit lost in both Manchester and Sheffield while travelling alone- BUT also managed to get myself from Florence to a little village in Umbria, when staying in Italy. I had extremely basic Italian vocabulary, but still I made it-after being left by my exchange student! lol. So, fingers crossed this will be a daudle. Thanks for all ur help. :-)0

You'll love Newcastle, dont forget to go down to the Quayside, theres a Qlink bus that does the round trip. The quayside is where the millinium bridge, the Sage, Baltic Centre, and of course all of the historic bridges.
Dont work too hard. And by the way, just an MSE tip, Slug and Lettuce on the Quayside, half price food every Monday, The Pitcher and Piano is down there too. Sign up for their newsletters and you get really special offers.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Haha..here, here, I did in last few I sent, I just sometimes forget also...get so used to writing "thanks" not clicking it- still only got 29 posts! :-)
I would really like to go down to Quayside too. I also even looked into the Travelodge their, but decided that although popular they were maybe not my best bet. Know anything about the BandBs in Jesmond. I am not really a massive cooked breakfast fan, so may be better just doing something simple.
Do you live in Newcastle or nearby? I wanna check out the work situation down there, but also have a bit of fun, whislt avoiding getting lost! So it's a kinda lonely trip, but with a view to returning. A "getting a feel for the place" kinda thing. Well thanks for ur help. :-)0
