This has happened to my wife and I a couple of times which is why we won't touch Ebay now with a bargepole, it's a scam artists dream.

If we buy online now it is only from people who deliver the goods first and send an invoice either with goods or at a later date, and even then we have had on one occasion goods delivered and signed for but not by us.

When we queried this it had been signed for by "Dan or "Don" or "Dana" "we can't make it out"

My name is Kevin and my wife Jacqueline

My conclusion is that goods are simply being stolen by staff at certain couriers and signed for by themselves or their friends.

Tracking numbers mean nothing when a driver can just say that he delivered it and we have a signature (regardless of who's signature it is) so that's the end of it.

Seller provided tracking number, which on the website for the courier shows it as having been delivered.

I had a similar thing as a seller a couple of years ago. Tracked. Signature. Buyer said they didn't get it.

We had a similar thread a short while ago and it transpired that the courier had just confirmed delivery but had not actually delivered, so tracking was updated but the parcel was no where to be found.

I wonder if the same courier is involved in 2 or more cases?
Are you able to name them?

I suspect that Mr Delivery Man was a bit naughty, and marked it off as delivered when it wasn't.

The tracking system apparently only shows a signature if they're using one of those touchscreen jobbies, and my guy would have been equipped with a state-of-the-art sheet of A4 and biro.

EDIT: IIRC, they can't edit the database like that. I know, I know, but I doubt I'll get anywhere arguing with them, same as the whole refusal to give written confirmation. Or non-confirmation, I suppose.

Well I can remember back in the days before the sign on the screen jobbies every courier company used a paper slip and it was still possible to request a hard copy of the POD. So it should still be the case today that if they're using paper and a pen they can do a copy. Only problem is the request would like as not have to come from the sender, so now you're back to beating your head against that particular brick wall again.

Normally this is how businesses operate with 30 day credit terms and so on - I can't see a consumer sale allowing this at all though.

A certain amount of trust, in both the seller and the payment system, is necessary to shop online. Most reputable sites have quite good buyer protection, which is always where sellers have difficulty understanding that buyer traffic won't fall on their heads if the site protects them better than it protects buyers. eBid's preferred system PPPay, for example, doesn't allow disputes to be raised over payments, and therefore I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole as a buyer and I'd always use Paypal.

Agreed, and this normally only happens after the seller has taken up references and/or performed a credit check.

jafsie suggested that they were buying retail on this basis which does seem surprising.

has a courier ever asked you for ID before signing?
if not, then how does a signature prove anything? my signature for a package is not the signature i use on official documents

I refer to these people I bought two winter coats for £15 each (just before vat increase)

Absolutely superb value, and you don't get the invoice for a month
