Santander seem to have stolen my money. What's going on?

I had a bit of issue when registering with Santander in order to get their £100 offer. To cut the story short, i ended up with 2 accounts.

For the past week, i've been persuing them trying to find out which account qualifies me for the £100 as you'll bank on them not paying me 2x £100!!

So far i'd been crediting them both with £1000. 1 had a SO, but no D/D, the other had the exact same SO for some reason, but also a D/D.

Today i notice an email on my phone saying i can select which i would like to qualify me for the £100. Brilliant. I'll answer when i get home.

I log on now & find there's an account missing. It's the one i was going 'scrap' but that's not the point - they didn't know that.

Not only that, but this account had money in it. It's not been moved to the remaining account. It's missing.

I've emailed Santander asking what's going on, why the account is no longer there and if it's been deleted by them, then why they took it upon themselves to select that one when i was told i'd be able to choose & more importantly, where is my missing money.

What's the deal here & how can i get my money back?

As it stands, Santander are the only one's with the answer to that question :o

I was just hoping others had experienced the same & could offer their take on what happened to them.

There are plenty others with experience.... The usual advice is don't go anywhere near Santander unless you want to risk losing your money or some other f*** up. Unfortunately you have gone beyond that point.

Yeah i know all about Santander, but they surely can't just get away with deleting your bank account just because they feel like it & taking your money & getting away with it all, end of story?!

I've had accounts not show in the past with other banks, so i'll see if it shows tomorrow &/or if they reply. If it's not showing tomorrow & if they've not replied then it's a phone call finding out where my money is. You can't tell me that they can just delete peoples bank accounts willy nilly & pocket the balance.

You will probably get it back eventually, but you will realise that no bonus interest rate or cashback offer will ever tempt you to darken their door again.

Sounds like they have removed your profile somehow - this is kind of what happened with mine an my brothers accounts... See this thread

The problem will be in locating that profile. It is a long haul, but go into a branch, raise official complaint, ask for them to phone their complaints resolvers and let you speak to them. This is practically how we sorted ours, although we only spoke with the complaints resolver after the complaint had been officially taken up.

Keep on at them, but be polite. Good luck.

Just work out how much work and stress goes into getting that "free" £100.
  • okay on the 31st of august just over 2 weeks ago my Mick tried to pay for something on line his card was refused I went on to on line banking to see why what I saw shocked me ..he was 600 pounds in the red as he only has a 250 authorised overdraft that made him seriously overdrawn on further investigation I saw that they had TAKEN £1000 pounds out of his account with the explanation "CHEQUE ADJUSTMENT" as no further explanation was available we went first to our local branch where they told us it related to a cheque that was paid in at the beginning of May and thats all that they could tell us and refered us to the main branch ...we were at the main branch for almost 2 hours the manager there tried her best to get to the bottom of this matter and in the end to stop us being in an unotherised overdraft suggested that we transfer our savings which were 400 odd quid to the main account meaning that although we were still into the overdraft it was at least authorised as it was a friday afternoon there was nothing else we could do but wait until monday when we hoped things would be put right ... well monday came we rang an 0845 number ...no explanation tuesday ,wednesday thursday the same ringing up to 3 or4 times a day ...then on Friday a letter arrived saying dear Mr Hartford (not the correct spelling of his name )thank you for your recent query in relation to the debit on your account for the value of £1000.00on the 30/08/12 i can confirm that due to an administrive error this cheque was credited to your account by mistake this was identified through our internal control process and corrected by debiting the payment from your account I wouls like to apologisefor any inconvenianceand can assure you that this is an isolated example for which we have stringent measures in place to correct yours sincerely...signed by a scribble no name ...the latest is that they needed the cheque number we got it and the sort code which we couldnt get so we are in stale mate one thousand pounds down

  • Hello, I really hope someone can help me.

I received a text from Santander this morning asking me to call them.

I graduated last year so I have been waiting for a letter from Santander informing me as to how much my Student Account Overdraft (which has now been converted to a Graduate Account) would be reduced by, I assumed it would be reduced by about £500, they would write to me, and I would pay it off.

My last letter from Santander is dated in August, informing me that my account had been converted, and that my overdraft was £1800.

This morning they told me that as I had not credited the account with any money in the last three months, they had "decided to cancel" my overdraft - without telling me!!!! - and asked me how would I like to pay off the £1800 debt I now owe them.

I spoke to Santander about paying off a charge in May, and they never mentioned any of this.

As a nice touch, my overdraft was cancelled on 1st September, even though they only contacted me today, so I have accrued a few hundred pounds extra charges in that time.

I'm organised, I file all correspondence with my banks, I don't have any other overdrafts and I use a credit card responsibly. I have savings that I can use to pay off the overdraft, would this be a better way of paying the debt than arranged monthly payments?

And is there ANYTHING I can do to fight this injustice, they never told me they were going to cancel my overdraft!!!!! As far as they knew, I'm an unemployed graduate with no job and no income!!!!! Any help would be appreciated, I'm pretty distraught.
