eeek, do you not have a router? ideally you'll have a router already connected and you just plug an ethernet cable in NO software required.
if you have an old USB modem you need to be REALLY careful you are up to date and secure before going near the internet as they leave you very exposed.
did you install all the correct drivers for your hardware (eg motherboard/chipset drivers so on board ethernet ports will work properly?)0 -

Twasn't the understanding I was thinking of britishboy, so much as the doing and operating of the setup advised.
If the disc still appears to be running, which it may be, try to eject the disc, and you either won't be able to, or you will get a warning something like, "operations are still in progress, do you want to terminate them?".0 -
installed hipset support dvd that came with the pc itself, and 'installed all' on the menu
I have a wireless G+ belkin router in the lounge, my laptop and gf laptop connect up no problem, cant seem to get new pc to tho.... any ideas please?0 -

Are you trying to connect it via ethernet cable or wifi ?? if wifi, do you have a wifi adapter plugged in (internally or externally) to the pc ?? If ethernet, check the device manager to see if the network port is operating correctly..........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

So the PPPoA is for the older type plug in internet? its the only option that comes up
Usually when we try connecting a new laptop at home, it scans and finds several 'secure modems', mine, both neighbours etc and i just select which one, but its not finding any :mad:0 -

via wifi jack, not sure if i got a wifi adapter plugged in internally or not? is there any way of checking?0 -
^^^ yes, do you have any aerials similar to the ones on your router sticking out of the back of the pc ?? If not, you don't have an internal wifi card in the pc !! If not, you'll need a USB wifi adapter, plug it into a usb port, load drivers (if needed) and then you'll see your router......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
