I run Windows ME on my hard drive and Windows 7 on my other drive on the same computer. Today I had a new dvd drive put into my PC and the old one replaced by the local company whom I bought the machine from.

When plugging in my machine on return home, no problems on running Windows ME on the first drive (when booting up I am given a choice of which drive I wish to use) but when I choose Windows 7 I cannot access the internet, Windows Live Maill, dvd drive and there is no sound capability.

The machine worked fine yesterday apart from the faulty dvd drive that was to be replaced.

I would welcome any thoughts as to how to get up and running again on the Windows 7 drive

I'd take it back and get them to sort it (free of course). Replacing the DVD drive should not have affected anything to do with the Windows installs unless they've done it wrong.

They have offered to sort it out, but if it was something simple I would have a go myself as I will have to take time off work to take it back.

I would take the side/top off the machine and make sure that everything's been plugged back in correctly.
I had a similar problem when I had my machine "repaired" and they'd unplugged all sorts of things they didn't need to.

The person I spoke to said they had just simply taken the old dvd drive out and put a new one in. I don't understand why I can use Windows ME and not Windows 7.

I can access all the other programs on my Windows 7 drive i.e. Excel, Sage. But cannot access the Internet or Windows Live Mail.

Perhaps it's some kind of conflict issue?

Try going into device manager and removing the new DVD drive and then scanning for new hardware. Might sort it out.

If they work with ME and not 7 there is no point taking the side of as everything will be plugged in!!

Most probably a driver issue. Start and type Device manager

Are there any items with a yellow exclamation mark?

What about putting my original Windows 7 disc in and re-loading or is this to drastic?
