Ebay dispute - what should I do ?

I sold 2 items sunday to the same person they sent me a message asking for payment total and although I never put I offered combined postage I gave them a postage discount and sent revised invoice with a copy being sent to my e-mail address they then sent me another message asking for total including express delivery as they wanted item quicker than the 2nd class postage offered in my listing so again I sent another invoice with a copy being sent to my e-mail address also.

I then messaged them on Tuesday night as they still had'nt paid which I thought was odd considering it seemed they wanted the item quickly and asked them when they were planning to pay as I had some items to post the next day and was wanting to get the item out to them they messaged me back saying they were 'Flabbergasted' that I would ask for payment after ignoring their messages for revised invoices and they wanted to retract their bids as they no longer wanted item.

I replied that I had sent revised invoices and had copies to prove so and advised her of the times I had sent them and could she pay by end of day or I would be opening a non -paying bidder dispute , she replied back that was fine to go ahead and raise a dispute and that ebay had access to her inbox now Im sure invoices go to your e-mail address and not your ebay inbox which has certainly been the case with things I bought that same day.

I am now waiting to raise dispute which I cannot do until later this afternoon when it has been exactly 4 days but in the meantime I have found the buyer has left me negative feedback saying the following

' No reply to emails then threatens a 100% fb buyer instead resolving?????'

'No reply, no contact then threats?????? Avoid'

have requested ebay to remove this feedback as I feel it is unfair they are the non-paying bidder and I did not threaten them I only said I would report them if they did not pay. Am I likley to get it removed are ebay likley to find in favour of me in dispute since I have proof that I sent the invoices requested.

Would be very grateful for replies Im quite upset by this:(

If I were you I would ring Ebay and just tell them that the buyer has left negative feedback and they haven't yet paid. Don't go into the ins and outs, it may confuse the Ebay person!

If that isn't removed immediately, then it should be removed when you file the NPB and close it 4 days later.

Make sure you have them blocked so they cannot buy anything else from you.

This is the sort of issue that can end in glowing feedback or some kind of claim depending on how it's handled.
The world is full of numpties who don't check their inbox, ebay's messaging system is equally unreliable.
Blaming ebay is the safest option, a threat of NPB strike and no effort to resolve the problem, is more likely to get you neg fb and a problem buyer.
  • Well yes the only thing she wanted me to do was retract and cancel her bids which I was not willing to do as I had fulfilled my part of the bargain and sent her 2 revised invoices and her message to me was rude and implied that really she had changed her mind and no longer wanted items and was trying to get out of paying by making out it was all my fault. Anyway have now filed dispute and requested for feedback to be removed.

    I don't agree on this.

A NPB filed through to the end, will result in either the feedback being removed automatically or by intervention by Ebay.

There is no way a negative should be left before payment is made. Any attempt to reconcile with this type of buyer is futile.

The problem is that a NPB can encourage an unwilling buyer to pay and then cause all sorts of problems.
Personally I would have given the buyer the opportunity to understand these things happen, and see if they were willing to go ahead with the purchase. What I'm saying is that I get the impression that the possibility that this was a genuine buyer who didn't get the message was not even considered.

But each seller's approach is different, some are less worried about their fb and stars than others.

The fact the buyer had left a negative already, despite what appears from the OP to be a genuine situation makes me think the buyer was not open to any sort of discussion.

An invoice doesn't (afaik) go to the inbox, but is just in your 'awaiting payment' items. So I cannot see how there is any way the buyer can not see the amended invoice, unless the seller didn't send it?

I've seen stranger things happen. If the buyer does not know where to find an invoice she may not have seen it.
I'm dealing with someone now who I'm trying to get to buy an item she had asked me to get for her, she has bought the wrong one TWICE, and after cancelling both transactions, she has now asked me if she can pay the invoice, while I've not sent her one, and she has not even bought the item yet.
She has bought from me before, so I know she is genuine, but if she had found someone less patient it could have ended badly if they thought she was just using excuses to get out of a sale.

But I must stress that for me 100% fb and good stars are vital, if I want to keep up with my competitors, so I need to have a different approach.

I am the first to say that good service is only evident when things go wrong.

But in this instance I cannot see the buyer couldn't find an invoice but could find the way to leave negative feedback.

Good customer service is more vital to me than feedback and stars, but on this occasion, given the situation the seller finds themselves in, I would not be giving any benefit of doubt.

Block, NPb and block again if I could. At least with a NPB the buyer's feedback will be removed.
  • When I had to contact Ebay over a dispute i was told that they DO NOT have access to your Ebay messages as these are private as I told them to go ahead and read what had been sent to me by the bidder.
