Admiral or Tesco or Liverpool Victoria?

Options
Have spent hours getting quote, daughter age 20 and two 50 plus parents to drive. Tesco and LV just over £200 more than Admiral, would you agree that you get what you pay for in the event of an accident? Her premium has gone up about £220 from last year, with no accidents or changes.

For £200 difference I would go with Admiral. For less a difference, I might make another choice.

I don't think LV or Tesco are offering a better service or product which justifies asking £200 more.

It is just a case that Admiral are offering a better rate for the risk.

Have you tried a local broker (not Swintons) to see what other choices they can offer.

  • i was with admiral for 3 years, but my recent car just wasn't competitive so i joined LV as a few family members and girlfriend gets a friends and family discount..

Admiral were good enough, they even fought a dubious claim when i crashed into the back end of a vicar when he pulled out on me..
many insurers wouldn't even argue when you crash into the back of someone, so in that respect i rate admiral for pursuing what was right.
I preserved my no claims discount

at 20 years old go for the cheapest with the cover required..
a young driver is more likelyto crash and what ever insurer you use the no claims will be lost and premiums increase

Thanks for all your responses, I just phoned Tesco who in fact have given me a good discount, Admiral ended up being more expensive as my car model was not on their web form, so I opted for similar which of course was incorrect so when I called the price was a lot more. So, it pays to phone the insurance company to see if they will better their renewal.

Tesco have a pretty good reputation and they use a decent Insurer in Ageas (nee Fortis).

A neighbour had a claim with them and was very impressed with the service. They have UK based call centres which these days is not that common.

Thanks for that huckster, reading on line reviews is dreadful, more than ever people with terrible experiences who give most companies a really bad review!
  • I'd phone LV and ask what they can do. I took a policy with breakdown/recovery included which worked out cheaper than most others and they are a great insurer when it comes to customer service and fairness. £200 difference would be tempting though and I'd take the £200 if they couldn't get much nearer to Admiral's quote.

never dealt with tesco or admiral but i cant fault LV in anyway after having to claim last year - to the point when it came for renewal this year their quote was very competitive and i stayed with them rather than trying to say 20 quid by going elsewhere
