BT Broadband Contract - A way out?

Hi
We took out a BT Broadband Option 2 Contract last month, but in January we are going travelling and renting the house out, any suggestions as to what we can do to reduce the potential costs of this 12 month contract?

I have ruled out the possibility of saying that we are moving home and transferring the contract to someone else (I realise it would have to still stay in our name), if we 'gave' the contract to our tenants I don't think BT would allow this and I do not want to have the tenants phone account in my name , We have had problems with the broadband service but they seem to have settled now although we are still waiting for BT to respond to a complaint sent weeks ago! Would welcome any suggestions . Thank you

There are a few ways out, If you have a fault that latsts for 14 or more days you can be released from the contract, this is under the technical cease clause.

If you order check if you are still in the 3 month trial period which most of the bt accounts are on.

You would need to check this with the residential Order Management Desk.

Quick dial number for all BT BROADBAND DEPARTMENTS IS: 08456008213 ;)

This number lets you skip the queues and straight through to an agent.

    Option 1:Business Broadband Technical Desk
    Option 2:Residential Broadband Technical Desk
    Option 3:Business Billing
    Option 4:Residential Billing
    Option 5:Business Order Management Desk
    Option 1:Residential Order Management Desk
    Option 1: Alligned Order Management

If you call that number and press option 4, ask if you are still if your contract has a 3 month trial period, If so you will need to pay for the first 3 months and no more.

This would save you paying the full contract.

You can also Speak to the Customer Options Team: 0800800871, advise them you are a residential customer and explain your situation.

Will check a few things tomorrow for you too.

Any other questions just give me a shout.

    Cheers
    Gav
  • Well thank you Gav, that is really useful, sorry for delayed response , been away and guess what - we still have No b.........broadband talk ! thanks again
  • sorry , I should have mentioned the charming apology from BT which arrived a few days ago, with a bill credit of £52.50 (I invoiced them for my time). Say it like it is..........
  • with BT broadband theres no trial period!

    Gav is speaking crap,..

You have the right to cancel the service until its provided, after that its a 12/18 months term.

OK dont you come on telling me i speak **** mate.

    Check this,

    Summary of Terms and Conditions

    • For all Options the new contract lengths and the associated introductory prices apply to all orders placed on or after 1st August 2006.

    • Customers benefiting from the new introductory pricing will see the normal rental price on their bill but will see the relevant credit automatically applied to their first bill after their activation date. This credit equates to the difference in price between what they would normally pay and the monthly rental prices for the first 3 / 6 months shown above. The credit will appear in the ‘other charges and credits’ section of their bill. Text will be placed on the front page of the customers blue bill fully explaining what this credit relates to. Any customers stating that they have not received their credit

    • should be talked through the appropriate sections of the bill and account checked in the first instance which will confirm that the credit has been placed against the account.

    • All services subject to availability, survey and credit check.

    • 12 or 18 month minimum term applies.

    • BT reserves the right to amend or withdraw this offer at anytime.

    • The new contract lengths will be included within the converged T’s and C’s.

    • Project Stardust also applies, (3 Month Trial with option to Cancel without HTT)
If cancellation request is initiated final bill will include full 3 months service regardless of cancellation request date.

    • All other converged T’s & C’s apply.

Not many people will know about this as its not often made public knowledge,

last time this was shown was with the 2mb upgrades and has been running ever since under "Project Stardust"

There was no need for the comment .

    Thank you.
