Help?

It's about time I get into gear and sort out a new internet deal since I've been putting it off since 2009 cos I don't really understand what I'm doing :(

Line Rental £12.24
Phone & BB saving £-8.00
Broadband size M £20.75
£24.99

I've just done a search and the Plusnet broadband and phoneline is coming up at a total monthly cost £18.48 + £49.99 set up (cashback £38)

I'll have to check with our LL whether we'd be allowed to do this as the site states that a new phone number will be required.

If you are on VM cable service then there are no other possible providers unless you first get a BT ADSL line installed.
This is why you will presumably lose your number, as VM will not allow you to port it to the BT network.
Suggest you got to https://www.samknows.com and do an exchange search for the LLU providers on your exchange, these will be the best deals for you.
Makes sure that you are not still in contract with VN (remember that any tariff/package change starts you on a new 12m contract with them).

Assuming the OP is on a cable service, then an OR engineer will be required, as a BT line will need to be provisioned or reconnected.
And you are not allowed to solicit referrals on this board, please use the referrals board.

VM have no choice in the matter they have to allow the number to be ported. BT can refuse to accept it though...

So if you’re staying at the same address and your number is active, your current provider must allow it to be transferred to a new phone company.

Whilst the new provider doesn’t have to accept this request, it is in their interests to do so. They should also make all the transfer arrangements.

Does that still apply even if the no. originated from VM (rather than being ported from BT to VM)?

According to the very brief Ofcom statement it does as it gives no exceptions.

I think BT have problems incorporating VM numbers into their network though for some reason so it may well be that VM => BT ports are often refused but not because VM won't release the number.

I have no practical experience but have been looking it all up as I'm considering dumping my VM line and moving to Vonage for VOIP as they will accept ports and my current supplier doesn't offer that option.

But are you on VM cable, or Virgin National ADSL service?

No, you didn't. My comment was aimed at another poster, whose post has now been removed.

Your pricing shows you are certainly on cable.
