I thought exactly the same thing when reading through them.
Indeed, though I must admit they took me back to when I worked in a Garage. And did make me chuckle.
At least we can see where Inactive gets his "informed" opinions from.0 -
Ah thanks everyone for the advice!!
So it is going to be due a cambelt change then.. I thought so much!! I had a little research online.
Thanks for the advice on cargiant.. but Ive saved up for this car for quite a while and dont want to get in any debt so I am sticking to my budget of 3k + 1k trade in for my car.
I may ask the seller if he will change the cambelt for me, and ill still pay the full asking price?
Thing is he wont drop the price at all, so its unlikely he will do that... even though he has his own garage?!
I am a young woman, so I can imagine I am an 'easy' target for salesmen, however I do know a little bit about cars.. not alot but im not compeltely dense about it.
Hmm... the car was lovely, just I dont want to be buying problems as it was higher milege than I was looking for.
So as i said before.. possibly a solution may be to ask him to change the cambelt.. So i know its not going to be a big expense for me quite soon.. as buying this car is using most of my savings...0 -
Oh shall I go to Mercedes or lexus or Bmw to buy a car,no why don't we see what CARGIANT have to offer :rotfl::rotfl:0

CARGIANT are nothing but a sub-prime car supermarket which attract muppets who can not get decent car finance anywhere else FACT.
They are exactly the same as CARSHAFT.
CarCraft are nothing like CarGiant, CarShaft used that name so idiots like you would think they where the same company, they are similar in that they both sell cars, in large warehouses, they also both have a arrange cars for their customers, but that is where they differ.
CarShaft try all the high pressure sales techniques, pre approval etc, they also charge about 20% more than a main dealer for cars which are shiny buy crap, they also use lots of silicon spray of their stock.
I wouldn't buy anything from CarShaft, and they have a branch near me, which I go into if I need a laugh.
I have said before that i would never reccommend buying from CarCraft.
The only Car Supermarkets that I reccommend are Fords of Winsfords, Motorpoint and CarGiant.
I have said this before aswell.
I can assume that you have not been to CarGiant either, but feel free to pay a couple of grand extra whilst myself and everybody that asks for my opinion will be buying the decent staff at CarGiant, though buying a car also means you need tyo check the car properly, any dealer can sell a car that develops a fault, anybody that says different is dreaming, even new cars have faults.0 -

On, you go , if Iwant an E Class diesel I will get it from Addison Lee actually, ex Private Hire, 100k on the clock well maintained and clean and tidy all round, all for just over £10000. But you can pay almost £20k for the same car with slightly less miles if you want, Merc dealers need to eat too.
As far a Lexus, no wouldn't buy one actually so help yourself.
On the subject of BMW, yes I would save 5 or 6 grand and get mine from CarGiant.
But you know what they say, you can take a Horse to water but can't make it drink, so you carry on doing you and I will keep doing me.
Now I am really learning a lot from your posts, but, in the words of the platoon sarge from JarHead, "I've got more important things to do, like play with my balls"0 -

If you avoid all the posts slagging off CG, the actual point of my posted links is that the car you are buying is expensive and has iffy history.
The simple answer, is don't buy it at that price, too many grey areas in that deal, trade sale? No such thing when buying from a dealer, my advice look for another car, do some research, you could be spending on a car that has been abused and hammered.
Though why are you concerned about the clutch?
A clutch isn't a normal service item, they need changed, but plenty of cars never have a clutch fitted since they were new.
My Mondeo is on its first clutch at 150k.0 -
Why do people get so worked up about the dealer you buy a car from?
You're buying a car, not a dealer.
Not all the cars at the "nice" sheds are any good. And unless you're buying a newish car from a main dealer who deals with the brand you're buying, I don't believe you get any higher standard of service from the "best" than from the "worst" in all honesty.
If the car you're buying is of a good brand and is in good condition at the point of sale, in all likelihood you won't require after-sales in any case.
If CarGiant is cheaper than everywhere else, and the car was good would I buy from them? 'Course I would. I've said this before in relation to another company with a less-than-stellar reputation, if you're not in a position to be able to evaluate a car from an inspection, and are unwilling to pay the RAC to send a man around, pay the extra 20-30% and buy from a main dealer.
These supermarkets are all no worse than buying from a back-street, "poverty row" independent dealer. In fact you're far less likely to run into trouble with a large concern than a one-man band.0 -

Its quite funny really when I go on Mercedes website it did not come up in big letters WE TAKE PEOPLE WITH DEFAULTS AND CCJ'S like Cargiant website thats strange.
So does this mean Cargiant will sell you one of their really good motors to someone who have a bad credit history and might not pay Cargiant back so Car giant are taking a risk.
And for that reason their cars are cr*p thats why they are cheaper because they are about as reliable as a talking cat,and the people who buy from their can't get finance at a decent dealer0 -
right... have just spoken to the dealer...
the car isnt going in for the MOT until tmw.. he states it 'should go through fine as its only a 4 year old car' ... wondering why he has such assurances??
Hes putting the new tyres on before the MOT.
I said about the cambelt.. he said he will get the MOT tester to 'check' it tomorrow..
The car doesnt look like it has been hammered, its in very good condtion, although obviously I know thats only cosmeticallty and i cant see mechanically..0 -
I agree with what yousay, Jase1, but would actively discourage somebody from buying from CarShaft.
I think that is one place you would struggle tp buy anything that isn't extremely overpriced, they still employ the preapproved rubbish to encourage those with no money to buy an ex fleet crapper on 5 yrs dribble.
It is partly CarGiants fault though, as they buy most of the decent stuff direct from the big fleets.
And that is all I would ever buy from CG, ex fleet, one owner with full history. Wouldn't trust a trade in or a relatively new car with several owners, even if the car was exatly what I wanted, just not worth the risk.
Though this may explain why lots of people wants me to check out their cars for them before they buy, especially from CG.
Yes, a main dealer is the safest route for those without knowledge, and if you can afford to pay the extra then go for it.
I will syick to CG.0
