  • Search on your computer for a document with your name in it. Depending on what operating system you have it will alter slightly. In vista there is a search box in the top right of the explorer window. To get the explorer window click start then computer to get a window of all the computer files. Then add your name to the search box and it should look through all docs on your box with your name in.

  • Search using contains the words, i.e. Your Name

Might be quicker to do a search for 'CV'.

Or even search for a word you would have used like an employer .

If you know the extension (doc, docx etc for Word) do a general search for any files in any locations with that extension - it may take a while, and give you a lot of results but it might work.
  • I don't know what operating system you have but the search tool on vista is known to be bad. I had to download additional software to find a document I knew I had. For my work I tend to use the search on textpad. It's quick and accurate and free. http://www.textpad.com/

So is it saved as a word doc, rtf, pdf, or what?
If you know the file format that will greatly narrow your search.

  • I think I had difficulty in vista with searching when I changed the indexing options to try and speed up the machine. Have a look on this thread below at the bottom as there is some advice on setting your folder options which include indexing. Sorry I can't be more helpful but I am stuck on Vista and xp. I would still try textpad as that doesn't care about your indexing of the files for searching.
