Pre-owned PlayStation 2

Just wanted some advice please. I want to sell my PlayStation 2 but I’m not sure where. I would prefer to sell on the high street and I heard Game and Gamestation buy pre-owned consoles?? I don’t want to sell on Ebay.

The PS2 I want to sell is the original version and comes with 2 controllers, memory card and fifteen games. It’s in excellent condition. What kind of price should I aim for? I’m relatively inexperienced, as I have never sold anything pre-owned. I don’t want to be cheated either.

Thank-you.

Yes, Game and Gamestation buy used consoles but you cannot ask for a price, they give you a quote.

  • With Game, as stated, it will be an exact price they give you. I'm not sure on the actual price... I'd roughly estimate maybe £30 or so... I think a thin black one (the newer one) is £40. The games depend on how new they are, for some older games you'll be lucky to get £1.
At Game, there is a massive difference between the price you'd get for trade in and the price you'd get for cash. Cash is often maybe a 1/3 of the trade in... for instance they may give £3 for trade in but only £1 for cash. You can get them to put the trade in value on a Gift card.

if its cash you're after its probably better to sell privately! maybe in the local paper! I'm after one if your near to me =p

At our "Gamestation" they have a board on the wall with prices for cash and trade in of the major consoles and the top title games.
The older games you have to take to the counter and they scan them in and give you a price and a printout.

To be honest I think you would get much better price by putting an advert in your local paper. This time of year there will be plenty of people looking to buy second hand consoles.

  • to get an idea of what you'll be offered for consoles and games - check out https://www.cex.co.uk We have a store in Southampton and find they give slightly more for cash and trade.
  • It’s interesting and also common sense that you get more for a trade-in than just cash. It’s a shame as I’ve recently ordered a Nintendo Wii. If I get a decent trade-in value for the PS2 I might look at buying the PS3 next year.

I would rather sell back to the High Street stores because it’s less hassle for me. I think I will check Game and Gamestation tomorrow to see what I can get.

Just checked CeX.co.uk and realised I’m not going to make much money from the games. I paid £30 for most games and some are being valued at £1.00! I think I'll rent next time. It’s a good site for comparing prices though (not just for computers).

    Thanks for the advice.

If your games are in good condition you can sell them on Amazon - I sell my unwanted books, videos, DVDs and games there and it's not oo much hassle.

Depending on where you are there are also the computer exchange shops - see online at https://www.cex.co.uk. They are quoting £42.00 cash for an unboxed unit, or £52.00 trade-in. You can also look up all of the cash/trade-in prices for the games and the extra controller.
Fiscal drag, that's my problem. Too many people dragging on my fiscals.

    Hi Goldeneye,

I work in Manchester and I'm looking to buy one for my boyf for Xmas - I'd be interested to know what games you've got and what price you're looking for? Thanks
  • Thanks Harloe, I've PM'd you.

I signed up to Amazon Marketplace last night. I put one game up for sale. I was just wondering what it's like for selling stuff? Do your items remain on sale for long?
