Legally a supplier cannot fit a pre payment meter when the customer does not have 24 hour access as they are at risk of disconnection as unable to top up meter.
So even if the warrant went ahead and they went out to fit pre payment meter once they realise the meter is not within property and 24 hour access they wont fit meter.
The only option that the energy provider will have is to take the OP to court for monies owed (not ongoing usage)0 -

but the fueldirect would be the same rate, she would have to pay for what she used no matter what. If she went to the dro route the supplier would 100% install a pre-payment as credit would no longer be granted
As already stated above yes they woukld have to pay for usage but there is no threat of power going off if they run out of cash. Remember the levels of income & assets this poster suggests they have.On the other hand how can a credit meter be appropriate, if he won't pay his energy bills!!!! - or for that matter other bills!
Because, as already said above, on Fuel Direct he / she cannot not pay for energy - obviously a priority bill - the money is taken from benefits at source & is therefore guaranteed to be paid (unlike ppm which can collect no debt if you don't top it up!).

Without the customers permission probably not and even then depending on what type of property it is (previous post seems like a house conversion) the cost you would be looking anywhere upwards of £1500 to put in a new supply cable/meter and/or move current meter location.
In this circumstance looks like fuel direct is the only real option0 -

Show me the law which says 24 hours access must be available. Also a supplier can cut off as they dont have to supply anyone0

I thought this forum was meant to help posters, not slate them for falling behind with their bills and suggesting solutions that are simply inappropriate for their situation! And then just blame the landlord for supposedly bodging a conversion from a house into separate flats rather than offer a realistic solution to the problem!
Several prolific posters here quite clearly assume the supplier is in the right when there is doubt (such as Spiro and Cardew). I am also not sure they understand what Fuel Direct is.0 -

As said before we are only 1 of 2 countries in the world that offers ppm for debt recovery. Other countries use them as PAYG but there is no option to go into debt. In all other countries if you dont pay the bill on time they cut you off. Hi Guys,
I hope this finds you all well.
Having spoken to a very helpful advisor at Consumer Focus on Wednesday, NPower have now agreed to put my account on hold for three weeks (am waiting for ESA letter hopefully next week).
Apparently, as the meter is not accessible nine times out of ten, NPower will then consider deducting the arrears at £3.25 per week (Fuel Direct, from my ESA at source) until my circumstances improve.
I have also called CCCS, and they have advised that due to my situation, a Debt Relief Order is probably the best course of action. This will take time though, so I am trying to come to the best solution to the NPower issue as soon as I am able.
To the civilised, helpful, and supportive posters on here - 'undaunted' and mattcanary; Many Thanks to you for your kindness and practical advice.
To the remaining, rather rude minority (you know who you are) I will say this -
I am in this situation due to an ongoing struggle with depression, alcoholism, three bereavements, and losing my job in January.
I have already said, that if I could repay all of this debt (£14,700 in total, including NPower) I obviously would.
However, until things get better, and I feel well enough to return to work, my sobriety and health have to come first.
If that means 'delaying' things with NPower et al for a few weeks, then so be it. If I had an alternative, I would've considered it months back.
I fully appreciate that utility bills are a priority and that they need to be paid. When one is so low, that they can not get out of bed though, then things sadly fall by the wayside.
Quite a few of you on here remind me of the old phrase; "If you can't say anything nice, then don't say anything at all".
There are ways of saying things. There are ways of giving bad news.
Rudeness, insults and antagonism are never warranted in any circumstance.
I don't mind being given the facts, whether it's regarding this NPower debt issue, or anything else.
However, I don't appreciate rudeness, and I'm sure that those of you on here who have been rude wouldn't dare to speak to me in person, in the same way as you type!
It's lucky that this last week, I wasn't suicidal (as I have been in the past, and as a few other posters on MSE have been too), as comments like these could drive someone over the edge.
Any further argumentative posts / personal 'digs' (when you didn't even know of my situation) will be reported to MSE; I will also request that this thread is locked.
I will not post again on this thread, as it has run it's course and the issue has been resolved.
