Isurance co admitted liability on my behalf

For an incident I denied happened (apparently the other car suffered a scuffed bumper!) and now my insurance premium has quadrupled!

Can they do this? Obviously it was cheaper for them to settle than contest but I'm really peed off as I don't even think it happened!

They could only do this if there was an independent witness.

Thank you - I'll give them a call in the morning and find out what happened. Confused as at the time they never contacted me for payment of my excess or asked me to fill in a form - it was just a phone call back in May.

Have found a few other quotes that aren't that far off what I paid last year so not feeling quite so angry about it now, but it is annoying.

You don't have any excess to pay if you didn't have your car repaired.

If you say there was no incident, presumably you didn't claim yourself, and therefore there wouldn't have been an excess to pay.

Secondly, they probably took a commercial view. It's quite common, but very annoying from your point of view, obviously.

It may be a good idea to make a formal complaint.

If you did scuff the car, and you didnt even realise it, think about the poor sod who'se car got scuffed.
I went through this last year, i wasnt even in the car when some bloody tractor scuffed my car and didnt even realise it.
The trauma was horrendous, weeks of it. Phone call after phone call, I had to inform my insurance company for information only, it
was lucky that my company did not up my premium, most do, so the owner of car you allegedly hit will probably pay more
    for his insurance next year.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

I bloody hope their premium does go up, I think they were just trying to pull a fast one! (By the way, I do not drive a tractor ;))

I'm confused, first of all you deny it happened and then you don't think it happened. If your insurace company has paid out to the other motorist this may affect the new quotes you've got. Your insurance could be void with a new company if they are not made aware of this claim. Be careful, insurance companies will jump on any reason not to pay out.
    It's someone else's fault.

Unless you have protected NCD, then you have done well! (The claim against you will have meant no NCD added for the current year, and unless you have protected your NCD it will have gone down 2 years from its level at the start of this policy year).

These are quotes with the claim. Only had one year's NCB as have lived in London for ten years and never needed a car until we had kids.
