if its a small scuff, it could easily have happened without you realising it.

And just to point out, the scuff that happened to my car (small, but down to the metal), cost about £800 and i was kind enough to wait and have
it done while we were away on holiday so that the insurance company didnt have a hire car to pay for.

    Really?

As someone who's scuffed his fair share of cars I fail to see how?

What a pain for you, but the insurance co said it was a scuffed bumper, so doubt it could be that much.

I'll find out tomorrow anyway as I'll need to know the full claim details to get more quotes - these were based on me not knowing the amount of the claim.

Sounds to me as if you

    1. Need to go to Specsavers

    2. Take another driving test.

    3. Stop driving

Or believe men when they put their thumb and forefinger outwards apart and tell you that the 4 inch space is really 8 inches.:D

Wow. Well I think I might (or rather my insurance company) have been done!

Apparently over £4k for whiplash and head and shoulder injuries, on top of the scuffed bumper.

Hard to imagine that could have happened without me noticing - I do live near where the incident happened but honestly don't remember how this could have happened. More likely a fraudulent claim in my opinion - can't believe they walked away with that much cash.

Have got a quote that is £100 more than last year so consider myself to have escaped this quite lightly, all things considered!

Lets get this straight, was there a minor RTC or not?

Either you have touched somebodies car and exhanged details and driven off, or your insurance company is being defrauded.

So, did you actually have a minor incident, or is it all a figment of the insurance companies imagination.

From what I can gather you hit somebody, you exchanged details, but felt you hadn't damaged the other car and feel put out due to them getting their car fixed by claiming on their insurance, who then passed the costs onto your insurance company.

Or, I am missing something ? Feel free to point me in the correct direction.

If you didn't do anything then you didn't get off lightly. You are coming across very vague, you say that you don't remember how this could have happened and it's more likely a fraudulent claim. If you 100% didn't do it then say so, the way you are writing makes me think you're not actually sure about the incident.
    It's someone else's fault.
