    Thanks everyone, hadn't considered the room size/ceiling height. fairly small room with i guess 'normal' height ceilings for a 50's semi.

    Tiles are these

    They look shiny but are matt and a bit textured.

    have a strange curved ceiling at the edge which is annoying! like the modern finish of yours Diable, think the horizontal looks great there!

    similar to my bathroom tiles. and ive put them up in the same way as the wickes piccy.

    1935 semi, small bathroom.
    Get some gorm.

    Moomin - IMO your selected tiles are not suitable for a stretcher bond look like diable has done. The height to width ratio is not sufficient. You could tile horizontally or vertically with them with conventional grout lines but I suspect they will be better vertical.

    Thanks keystone, unfortunately don't have a picture at the moment, but where the ceiling should meet the wall at a right angle, it is curved, as if there was coving there!

    didn't realise how annoying they would be til we moved in!
