Which way round for tiles?

Hi, just wanted different opionions on what looks better...tiling horizontally or vertically with rectangular tiles?

I assumed we would do vertical tiling, but looking around, a lot of people seem to go for the horizontal approach!!

What looks better? what would be better in a house you wish to sell on after refurbishing (not for a while though!).

Thanks, just looking for different view!

xx

It's entirely a matter of personal choice. Who is to say what looks better. If I was looking at a house that I liked, I don't think that the direction of the tiling would sway me one way or the other. There would be far more important considerations running though my mind that might affect my choice.
I can afford anything that I want.

We've got low ceilings so used vertical. Does help a bit.

size of the room matters. small rooms look better with vertical tiles.
horizontal tiles are ok in large rooms.

Do what you want to do. Whoever buys your house will want something different anyway.

Lay the tiles out and see what works best I went for the "brick type" layout.

Down to personal taste really but can also depend on the size and style of the tile, if they are traditional then I would say vertical, if you are looking for a more modern finish, then I would say horizontal works better. Can you post up a photo or link?

Think about what is best visually especially if you have a long slim bathroom the it it best for the floors to be laid on a diagonal.
