continuous insurance enforcement
Good idea in that it keeps all owners insured.
But not such a good idea perhaps for folks engaged on a long term rebuild project. In many cases the car may well be just a collection of boxes of bits awaiting re-assembly.
At least a SORN notice is free, even though it has to be done every year or risk I believe a £1000 fine. Hmmmm!
Surely the SORN is record enough!!!!!!!!!!
This government is claiming to be cutting red tape!!!!!!!!!

I believe it is exempt from those currently on a sorn.
Always worth having the vehicle insured anyway on or off the road in case of fire or theft.
Although perhaps not at todays rip off insurance prices to be fair.Unless specifically stated all posts by me are my own considered opinion.
If you don't like my opinion feel free to respond with your own.0 -
if the car is uninsured you have to sorn it and return the tax disc, dont know when it comes into force though, meant to be early 2011.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

Strange how this Government are reducing legislation on employment rights yet beefing it up on the poor old motorist again.
More red tape, that will achieve nothing.0 -
It's not a good idea, It's stupid. The nutcases already driving around uninsured vehicles are not scared of penalty points, £1000 fines or crushing the car, so I doubt they're going to be scared of a £100 fine, which they'll avoid anyway as they probabley won't tax their car anyways, and declare it sorn whilst still driving it. All it will do is penalise people who have their cars/bikes off the road and who don't want to go through the hassle of SORNing it, and would rather tax it.
I taxed my bike (£15), but didn't have insurance for about a month, so it sat locked up at my house, I would recieve a fine, even though I'm not riding it on public roads, only because I couldn't be bothered with the hassle of sorning it and sending the tax disc back to get a refund of £15 or whatever, when it would have likely took longer for it to be processed than the period of time the bike was uninsured for.0 -
does anyone know when this will become law? I am currently in the situation of having a barely road worthy car which is taxed and MOT'd but not insured.0

Would not worry as we will have no police to enforce it with the cut backs lol0

one of the reason this is coming in is to stop people insuring a small car with a 'drive other vehicles' on it and using it to cover a more expensive car that is otherwise uninsured.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

the police unions will have you believe that police officers jobs will be cut but the police cant by law be made redundant, it will be natural wastage over a number of years, there are too many as it is but they are not being utilised properly due to red tape and health and safety stupidity.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0 -

Many forces are, however using a previously rarely used police regulation (A19) to force officers with 30 years service or more to retire.
one of many examples is: http://www.clevelandpa.org.uk/admin/uploads/attachment/16_February_2011-Regulation%20A19.pdf
This has the same effect on police numbers and resources as a redundancy. We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.
The earth needs us for nothing.
The earth does not belong to us.
We belong to the Earth0
