Re: your previous point - a quick look at the latest Halifax data does show that average house prices were 3.25-3.5X average earnings in 2001, whereas the 2010 numbers are 4.5-4.7X. Just about evens above and below on that score.0 -

Exactly on a par with ludicrous ‘arguments’ like:
(a) Why should we get excited about the UK’s armed forces being scaled down? They’re still stronger overall than Vatican City’s
(b) Why should we worry about public spending cuts? Our public services are still, overall, better than in Liberia;
(c) Why bother looking at UK GDP growth or inflation data? Shouldn’t we just be thankful that we’re not Zimbabwe?
In relatively rich countries such as ours, elections are entirely won and lost over matters that, without exceptions, smack of pettiness & triviality by the standards of the very poorest people people in the world. In cases you hadn’t noticed.FACT.0 -

What's 'ludicrous' is to expend negative energy dwelling on price to income ratios now, when in fact one can still buy a home accross the UK in decent areas and live in realtive comfort.
To bemoan your lot at not being able to get the type of property your mate did back in 2001, when there are lost soul children living in boxes with fear and hunger not so very far away, is almost insane.
Focus your energy on what you do have and what you can do rather than feeling sorry for yourselves.

Well in that case, stop whinging about lack of lending, and focus on what you can do, rather than sending letters to your MP saying it's basically unfair on people that they cannot borrow what they want to.
Focus on what they can borrow and what you can buy with what you can borrow.
