Tiscali - Free Line Rental In 2007!

I have just received a mailing from Tiscali regarding

Unlimited Broadband up to 8mb, Free Local and National Calls and Free Telephone line rental, all for 19.99(inc VAT) per month. At the moment I pay £17.99 for the Unlimited Broadband 8MB) and was thinking of switching to Sky, that was until I have been reading everyone comments on Sky and Talk Talk. Then my BT phone bill came in charging me £34 a quarter for line rental (Option I). Now thinking of staying and paying the extra £2 per month for the above which looks a good deal to me as I would be roughly saving £220 a year compared to BT equalivent package

If I switched to Sky I would still have to pay BT line rental at £12 (excluding VAT) per month, as well as pay for calls nat/Local rate, plus I was looking at Sky's £10 per month deal(not sure about VAT) total £22 per month (with VAT, if £10 is subject to it £25.85)

I must say I have never had any problems with Tiscali's service, so thinking what's the catch with this new deal, anyone know anything about this?? or indeed steer me in the right direction for saving some money!

I will be looking out on this thread (and waiting for all the tiscali bashers lol) I too got this email, I am paying £14.99 p/m and then £20p/m for my house phone, that I don't hardly even use. I will be saving £15 a month.

Oh and tiscali are wicked :D

  • Are you getting the full 8mb DL speeds though - as not many are? I'm desperately looking to get out of Tiscali after 6 years with them as I have a secure website problem in peak hours and they refuse to do anything about it.

They say I can't have an 8mb line even though others providers say I can and I live next door to the exchange.

Their service is that bad I can't even get authorise to get on their support forums. Avoid like the plague.

Hi amos, welcome to MSE

I have never had any troubles at all with tiscali, I am paying for 2mb but I am getting close to 4, but thats just if your lucky I guess.

I have only ever had trouble getting online once, and that was a few weeks ago in a bad storm, it was more slow than anything. I have never had a single problem I couldnt sort myself.

  • I have been with Tiscali for two years now, and my charges have been reduced to £9.99 per month, but that was only when I told them I was going to move to Talk Talk. The old Sagem modem I was first given, was a bit intermittant, so I phoned them, and within two days they had sent me two of the new Speedtouch modems, including all the bits and pieces to go with them, and CD's, all free of charge. The new modem works a treat, no cut offs when the phone rings, and very reliable. No problems with Tiscali at all. Cheers, Woodville.
  • For us it was beneficial to change to this £19.99 service as it would upgrade our broadband speed. The free calls were of marginal benefit as we used 18186. After ‘going live’ the broadband speed remained at 1mb, on questioning this we were told that our line would not take 2mb, despite BT confirming (twice) the line takes 7mb. We decided to change to the £12.99 service with free weekend and evening calls. NOW FOR THE WARNING on this package all daytime calls are charged at 2.7p PER MINUTE, even if you use a prefix number, therefore double charging. We have cancelled the ‘talk’ part of the deal, and are now faced with a telephone call charge for the 2 weeks and at the FULL rate of 2.7p per minute. We cancelled due to Tiscali not providing the service offered; thankfully, we decided to keep our line rental with BT. Does anyone have advice on how we can take Tiscali to task over charging for the telephone calls?
  • ANYONE GOT ANY IDEAS IF TISCALI WILL OFFER THIS deal TO NEW CUSTOMERS?

I have exactly the same issue with secure websites in peak hours and they keep sending me round the houses..try this, try that, line checks, try this again....without acknowledging they have a problem. If my PC connects fine during the daytime but crawls or stops altogether in the evening then the issue is obviously theirs!

I did get on their forum and posted a daming post and asked for a MAC code even though I am in contract and they emailed the MAC code within 2 hours! I would not go back to them.
  • I was emailed by Tiscali in May asking if I was interested in pre registering for 8mb service, due to be rolled out in August. At the time I was on 1mb service, and still am. After numerous enquiries via India date was put back and back. Eventually advised that my local phone exchange was not even on the list of those to be upgraded!! Have written to Tiscali Uk customer services to express my displeasure, and to date have just been passed around their system. They cannot make outward phone calls to contact me, I have to phone them!! They can however phone me to try and get me to transfer Bt line rental contract! Now out of contract, and looking for alternatives.
