Also very sad. The HPI merchants might cheer it on, I get no joy out of it.

Been off ill. It is not looking great. Looks like I might pensioned off earlier than I planned. Can`t stand the idea that my wife will be the main bread winner. Going to try something else coming in. but benefits. I don`t think so. Anyway, a lot more than £16k in the bamk.

The company I work for will not pay out any pension, So here we go.

At my age it is unlikely I will find a job when well.

Really quite disturbed at this.

    That's sad :(
What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.

I don't know how old you are Pobby but the law changed last year as to the age you can retire at. In my scheme, we used to allow people to retire early (50) and now the minimum has raised to 55, so if you are younger than that there is little latitude, except for terminally ill people.

If you can find work, it is much better to do so as the impact on your pension from taking it early in a final pension scheme is not great if you retire very early. I don't know about Defined Contribution schemes as mine is DB, but I would imagine the situation with annuities at the mo isn't great either.

If you haven't already done so, try and get further advice over on the pensions board where you have very knowledgeable posters like Dunstonh who may be able to help. Also try the benefits board to see whether there's anything you are missing that you may be entitled to - though with the savings I doubt it.

Sorry I can't be of more help, but good luck Pobby.

Firstly don't discount benefits. Benefits aren't meant to be a lifestyle choice but they are definitely meant to be there to help you maintain yourself while you get back on your feet.

Secondly, get thee to the CAB and find out exactly what your position is.

Thirdly, don't fret about Mrs Pobby earning more than you. Who gives a stuff as long as you've got your health which brings me on to....

...get well soon. Please. You're one of the Good Guys on here and I'm sure you are in Real Life Land too. The World needs more Pobbies and fewer trolls.

Finally, repossession works very differently to US foreclosure. For starters you don't end up with any tax liability.

All of the above. In 10 foot high letters.

Regarding Mrs Pobby, remember that you & she are in a marriage. You're together. The best stuff about that is stuff money can't buy. The 2 of you are together & work for a joint cause.

Not all benefits are means tested. Gen is right, get to your CAB asap for an interview. They can look at whther any benefits are available to you. But they can also look at supporting you & giving you options regarding your home.

Do you have mortgage payment protection?
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

Others who got here earlier have given very sound advice. ;)

Otherwise, the main thing is not to be so hard on yourself. When you are ill, it's like waking at 3am and going into that panic mode we all experience over things that trouble us much less in the cool light of day. When you are well again, you'll work out a strategy. There will be one.

Meanwhile, chin up and enjoy a bit of pampering from Mrs Pobby. She knows you've earned it over the years! :)

Pobby, I hope it all works out for the best.

    Really sad.....

Can't you claim ssp and then if you still aren't well couldn't you get incapacity benefit, I remember my father claiming both of these while my mother worked - he was in his late 50s and had motor neurone disease, so there was no chance of him ever getting better or even recovering enough to do any form of work.

Please don't discount benefits - they aren't a charitable payout - they belong in a system you have contributed to all of your working life and should be used when you need them.

Please take the advice others have given and go to the CAB or to someone else who can advise you properly.

It was my husband's greatest wish that I could earn enough to allow him to give up work and be kept in the lifestyle to which he had become accustomed - never happened though!!!
