16-25 Young Persons Card

So I tried to use my young persons card on the train and I was refused by the conductor because i was only going to the next stop and not traveling anywhere.
I then said to the conductor if you dont accept my card i am not buying any ticket. He then got in my face and started saying "sunny dont try to tell me my job" I kept my cool but i could have re-acted abit more but decided to let him look a fool. He just walked away and never insisted that i buy a ticket.
Does anyone know if there is a rule that you cant use the young persons card for a 3 min journey, Not the first time i have had the conductor. Should i complain to scotrail/first about this issue not sure it would get me anywhere.
Any advice is welcome

He is probably right, after all it is his job to know. There is a minimum fare with the railcard (varies on different routes but is set at £12 peak time everywhere) and if your fare is less than the minimum then the railcard discount doesn't apply.
You should lose the attitude and be thankful he didn't grip you for travelling without a ticket.0 -
Actually I travelled after 10am (3:21PM to be exact) fare would of cost £1.60 without card and £1 with, And have used my card on the same 3minute route previously.0

If one were to insist on using a 16-25 Railcard before that time, then clearly a cheaper fare rises to £12.00.You should lose the attitude and be thankful he didn't grip you for travelling without a ticket.0 -
It's the same route, Same operator. First Scotrail operate west of scotland where i stay and the westcoast route.
Just awkward conductors like to make things difficult sometimes.0 -
If there are ticket purchasing facilities, ticket office or machine, at your starting station but you choose to buy on the train, the conductor does not have to give a railcard discount.
What station did you start at?0 -
I thought that you couldn't buy a ticket on the train with the YPR, you need to buy it in the station.0

http://www.16-25railcard.co.uk/buy-16-25-railcard/railcard-terms-conditions5 Tickets for your journey should be purchased before boarding the train and when buying tickets you must show the Railcard.6 You must carry your Railcard with you on your journey and when asked by rail staff, you must show a valid ticket and valid Railcard. If you fail to do so, you will be required to pay the full price Standard Single fare for your journey as if no ticket was purchased before starting the journey and in some cases a Penalty Fare. This does not apply if there was no ticket office at the station at which you began your journey or if the ticket office was closed and there was no ticket machine from which you could buy a discounted ticket.
Loose the attitude and it will put you in great stead later on in life.0 -

Well the 16-25 Railcard website tells us...With your Railcard, you’ll save money on both long and short trips. Better still, you can use it anytime on weekends, Public Holidays and during the week. However, if you travel at or before 10 am Monday to Friday then the £12 minimum fare will apply (except during July and August).0
