i currently drive 200 miles a day to get to and from work so im way of fuel saving lol

Same here, although by far the best way to get better MPG is to drive slower, don't you find that if you're doing that many miles in the day, getting there quicker starts to become more important than saving the money..

Do you need a special car to take that? Or can any car be adapted?

The best method is to buy a car that is already converted, that can be sold like that as new, or after sale conversion.

You can only convert petrol engined cars, and it's likely to cost about £1000 maybe a couple of hundred more. Really it should be a lot cheaper like 600 - 800, because it's not particularly difficult to do or requiring expensive materials, but I doubt you'll find it that cheap.

And you should weigh up your the alternative of buying a newer car which has (allegedly) excellent fuel consumption some of the cars these days claim 60 - 70 mpg

most cars can be,however you need to own the car long enough and do enough miles to recoup the installation cost and then make savings
cheaper to buy a ready converted car but of course theres a premium on the car

So would the premium cancel out the savings on fuel?:(

    only you can answer that

depends on the car you have
    what MPG it does
cost to convert or cost to change car
then how many miles you will do at £x cheaper per litre
also with the caveat that LPG tax levels may rise and cut those savings

Diesel used to be much cheaper than petrol, so more people bought diesel cars, so the price rose in line with that. So I don't think that in the long run lpg will work out cheaper. Or am I being cynical

I'm sure this has been talked about before but in the fresh wake of rising oil prices does anyone else feel priced out of driving their car?

No because as a percentage of my income, a gallon of petrol is cheaper than it was in 1993 when I started driving lorries (there's a reason I chose this).

For example, in 1993 when I started driving lorries in civvy street, I was on £3/hr and a litre of petrol was about 46p. However in my last job (I'm now self employed) I was on £10/hr. Petrol is just about three times what it cost in 1993.

I could go back further. When I started driving 23 years ago, petrol was 39p/l and I was on £2/hr. NMW is three times what I was on in 1989 and petrol is just over three times the price. However compared to my last job on £10/hr, a litre of petrol is far less of my income than in 1989 by about 40%.
