  • Virgin uses the T-Mobile network I think.

To be fair 3 have always been helpful when I've called them about connection issues. You could have a look at the coverage on their website for where you are, and if it's supposed to be OK, then pursue it with them.

You could also check the T-Mobile coverage - presume there's a checker on their website.

I also have a 3g internet dongle for my notebook it is awful, it has got to a stage where I don't even bother taking it out and opt to use wifi in coffee shops.
    Terrible!

that is what i'm going to do in future, the service is not fit for purpose, i had a call from their customer services by a woman with a extremely strong indian accent, i honestly had to hang up i could not understand what she was saying after asking her 8 times to repeat, and i was listening hard.

i went to virgin site just now and a chat box opened from some sales rep named emma, i saw the £40 1 off fee placed on my order and closed the chat box, i will do my best to use up my data on this dongle now and use wifi in shops instead.

What I cannot understand with my 3 dongle is that it seems to work fine if I plug it directly into the USB port but If I use the extending cable supplied in the pack I get no reception at all, this annoys because if it worked on the extender it allows to put loose in a laptop bag without damaging the dongle

Perhaps the extending cable is faulty? Try another one.

I use the 3 mifi, never had any problems apart from the occasional disconnect. I regulary get speeds of over 4 mbps and is much faster than the wired broadband I was offered by BT.
  • I have been using this and nothing else for more than 2 1/2 years. 3 say it is best used upstairs by a window on the long lead. There have been one or two network outages, but apart from that no problems. I too use 3gb SIMs from eBay.
