Buyer not paid & no communication

Hi

I maybe be a bit premature on this one, but an item I was selling finished on Thursday (17th Feb) evening with one bidder, and I sent the invoice that night, but to date have not heard a dickie bird! The buyer has good feedback over 900 with a couple of negs (over 2 years ago), so doesn't strike me as a time waster.

Should I send a reminder for payment now or leave it a few more days? It's for a low value item, and he/she has bought similiar items before.

Give it 7 days then send a polite reminder.

I have 2 buyers like this at the mo. Both auctions finished early Friday night and I invoiced minutes after they ended. Not a whisper so far!

I only accept Paypal but it's certainly still not unusual to wait a week for payment.

Don't send a reminder this early it looks a bit desperate. Wait until at least day 7.

Don't forget the buyer has no real need to contact you if you sent him an invoice, he has your address and payment details so a cheque might be on its way, virtually none of my cheque payers acknowledge the invoice, I just get a cheque 8-10 days later.

  • It annoys me when buyers do that, they send a cheque without completing checkout so I have no idea to expect a cheque.

And then to make it worse I've recieved a few cheques where that is all they have sent. No information about what item they are paying for. So I have to search through all my sales to find out who.

I once had a crossed postal order and didn't notice until I sent the item out that it was payable to my user id which is just a nonsense made up word and not my real name. I contacted the buyer and sent the postal order back and of course never heard anything again :-(

That was a long while ago now and I no longer accept postal orders due to the problems I was having with them.

  • Oh dear. If I ever had someone send me a cheque or postal order made out to my user name it would just go straight back to them

    Hi all

Well the 7 days is up, and nothing, so have just sent an everso polite reminder (thanks VH, I used the wording you suggested on another thread). I hope this does the trick.

No probs. Best of luck with them! I've got 2 non-payers myself this week!

One has got a neg for non-payment before. The other has bought an item the same as mine but cheaper - I'm sure he doesn't need 2!

I will send the usual reminder out tonight but I have a strong feeling that I won't be seeing payment from either one. I would much rather they actually told me they didn't want the items, at least I could jump straight to claiming my fees back. Dummies!!

I generally send a second (less polite) reminder, 3 days after the first. If I hear nothing within 48 hours then I file an NPB and re-list.

If you have a friendly local sub postmaster who you know well they will cash crossed postal orders :D

I send a polite reminder after 7 days and if no response after another 7 days (14 days after auction) I file a npb with ebay.
