Yep, annoyingly some PDFs are protected. You could try these but if it's protected they probably won't work
A) See option 1 in my post number 2 - you don't need to open the PDF, just import into word.
Alternatively open the PDF using Adbobe reader (or Foxit reader) and look in the toolbars for an option that says something like Select Text. This should let you highlight the text to copy and paste.
C) You can also try opening the PDF using Adbobe reader (or Foxit reader) and selecting File>save as>then select the save as text option. This save fred.pdf as fred.txt from which you can copy and paste into word.
