Please can anyone advise me, i have not used my barclay card since 2007.It was paid off in full I informed Barclaycard to close my account. 2 years layer i had a debt collecter letter saying i owed a sum of money , when I questioned this they informed me it was probably a subscription of something that i hadnt cancelled. They refused to tell me what it was. I agreed to pay the amount {to be honest just to get rid of the debt} I asked again that my account be closed. I was given the assurance the account was settled and now closed. In March Last year i has yet another debt collection agency letter - instructed by Barclaycard to collect a sum of £90 and that i had made my account in arrears. Again i telephoned Barclaycard and then the debt collection Agency to in form them they would be getting no more money from me as i didnt owe the money in the first place and here they were asking for more money. I recieved a letter from the debt collection Agency to say instruction had been recieved by their client to withdraw the account?? Yesterday i recieved yet another letter from a different collection agency for £92.38 ??? Arrrgggghhh can anyone advise me please x?

I would also check your credit report as well.0 -
if you have continuous payment authorities (CRAs) on your credit card then it up to you to cancel them with whoever they are from
the credit card company will continue to pay theses and then charge you until you do so
never ever set up payment on a credit card0 -
how can i find out if there are any outstanding CRA's on my account?? will have to get this sorted as its getting ridiculous xxx0

That's just ridiculous, call them and insist that they tell you. What reason did they give not to tell you last time?loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.0 -
If you asked the debt collector for transaction detail then they would, of course, have no idea. The debt collector only knows that they have bought a debt for a certain amount of money.
Barclaycard are the only people who can tell you.0 -

Gosh I'm glad Barclay card turned me down. I don't know WHY they turned me as they never bothered to tell me, or write to me at all, but this poor persons experience makes me very happy about it.
I am in the process of closing a Virgin card (and they are evil) so I will be extra careful to make sure they have actually shut the thing down as it may be possible, and I don't know, that you were charged some extra interest payment or some such bit of nonsense and now they are chasing you for £2.50 you probably don't owe.
Chase Barclaycard big time.
Please let us know what happens.0 -
It would be the same with any credit card - no need to pick on Barclays in particular0

This "poor person" has left a continuous payment authority on their card and has not cancelled it with the originating company. Then, every year when something gets automatically paid they ignore the statement that Barclaycard send. 3 months later Barclaycard quite rightly default the account and send it to a debt collector, who harass the "poor person" into paying the debt collector but not cancelling the CPA.
Nothing to do with Barclaycard, everything to do with not reading statements when they arrive and not asking the right people the appropriate questions!
OP, could this be "Cardguard" or some similar card protection product that has an annual charge? Closing the account does not make these go away - you have to manually cancel them yourself.
Call Barclaycard and ask them to send you a list of transactions on the account. Then you'll know who to contact to cancel the CPA.0 -
Sure it's not a charge for having the card itself?
I had a B/C before that I never got any charges for when in use.
However, I paid it off fully with a B/T and never closed the account.
Just over a year later got a statment with a £99 'fee'
Turns out that in the small print it says it costs £99 per year unless you make a transaction.
So I could have saved myself £99 by just using the card once for any value purchase.
Check they have actually closed the card account down, and, note, they can 'cancel' the card but if you owed them even 1 penny at the time the accound will have remained open.
When the cancel the card they normally cancel the direct debit (if you had one set up) at the same time, you then miss the minimum payment of 1p, get charged £30 for a missed payment, they then let the £30 acruue intrest at 24%apr for a year etc..0
