DO NOT USE [TEXT DELETED BY FORUM TEAM]! They do NOT know whether anybody has ever paid PPI or do any other company. You can find out yourself from the banks and other lending institutions yourself and do it yourself without any initial cost except for the cost of the stamps. [TEXT DELETED BY FORUM TEAM]

I have, foolishly, succumbed to one of these phone calls and ALMOST paid up. But being a Yorkshireman and having a wise Yorkshire wife I paused and told them I would call them back. We discussed it and also looked on the web as well as contacting a wise lawyer friend. Many thanks are due to this website for confirming our suspicions. My general advice is to beware of the remarkably plausible and charming people who speak to you. Don't do it!

    Hi

I too was cold called one evening by [TEXT DELETED BY FORUM TEAM]and a very charming and efficient lady (who caught me at a very bad time!) managed to sweet talk me into paying £200 there and then in order that they "work for me for one year" and likely to reclaim me over £6k. Although I am usually very wary of this sort of thing and give it short thrift, for some reason, I went along with this one and boy do I regret it now!!

Not only are they disorganised and poor communicators (terrible letters which are so vague or badly put together that you have to sit waiting on the phone to them to find out what the hell they mean!), they are difficult to get hold of when you want to speak to someone but constantly hassling me day after day when they want to try and sell me a new financial product which they claim will save me so much money. As far as the mis-sold PPI is concerned, so far they haven't been successful at all in reclaiming a single penny for me! I don't even think I WAS mis-sold PPI but they assured me at the beginning that I would've been and that they had the skills to get it out of the companies involved. When they found me a different deal for my home insurance and I decided not to take it in the end but to organise a new deal off my own back, they got quite aggressive and even slightly abusive - I guess because it meant they were missing out on whatever commission they were due to get.

They take a flat fee of £200 for the 'pleasure' of using their services and then 25%+VAT on any money they manage to reclaim for you. It's a total joke!! But the joke is on me as I fell for it and now have no understanding of how or if I can get out of it and salvage any of my £200 back! Also, they now are in possession of ALL my and my husband's financial details - credit cards, mortgage, loans, pensions - the works.

I feel very stupid for getting myself into this but would appreciate any advice from anyone out there in the know as to what my rights are in this case or hear from anyone in a similar situation.
    Ring these and complain

Tell the company you are reporting them,as they should not ask for an upfront fee and not keep you abreast of your claim, tell MOJ what you have posted here too.

Look at Magpie cottage replys on here and take her advice.
  • I've been cold called also..... many times..... this time by Aims Legal. This time I got into conversation with Alison. She made various claims beyond PPI recovery. For example "if your Will is over 5 years old, it is an invalid document." This was one statement i could check.... its NOT invalid, nor EVER will be (although it certainly might need updating)
About PPI...... she wanted £250 to 'join' which was guaranteed returnable should PPI not be successfully reclaimed.

I asked her to call back, to give time to think about it.

I called my Mortgage Company (Chelsea BS) and they were quite matter-of-fact about it, and said that they would investigate and get back to me. It turns out that I have not one BUT TWO PPI policies. I had no idea about the mortgage cover PPI policy (through Legal and General), which had been paid monthly between November 1996 and June 2009 as an element of my mortgage premium..... not itemised, and unknown to myself..... otherwise why would I have taken out the other policy (through Combined Insurance).

I also looked up Aims Legal, and found this website.

When Alison called back, I told her what I had done since her last call. It was a short conversation.

Why is relevant information being removed from this thread my Moderators ?
Maybe I'm wrong but it seems like they are protecting the people guilty of dubious practices.
Like the Solicitors from Blackburn who have taken £125 from my fathers bank account, sent in return paperwork and a plastic card with Aims Privilege on it, seemingly to reclaim PPI.
Thing is my father is 83 years old and in the early stages of dementia along with having suffered from stroke, it is very obvious to anyone speaking to him that all is not well!
This is regardless of the fact he has never had a credit card or PPI on a loan, so there is nothing to be claimed from anyone.
So stop protecting the names of these sharks let them be named and shamed.

This is a very old thread which was posted in 2009 for the most part; it's likely legal action was threatened by the firm in question and it's doubtful whether it is still "relevant information" given developments in PPI re-claiming since that time.
It is unwise to bump up such old threads

Wasn't an intentional "bump", a Google search brought me direct to the 2nd section of the thread and to be honest I didn't notice the date.
Maybe Admin needs to set auto prone on some forum sections it is quite simple to do with vBulletin Boards.

    ...

What search did you put into Google that threw up this particular thread?

As you have been unfortunately directed to this rather old thread, which may not now be appropriate, is there anything the Members of MSE can help you with?

Put a link to a more relevant one to pass people on.
