[TEXT DELETED BY FORUM TEAM] reclaiming PPI

Hi everyone
I received an automated telephone call this morning from a company [TEXT DELETED BY FORUM TEAM]. The message stated i am owed money due to mis-sold PPI and to press 5 to speak to an advisor. I pressed 5 and spoke to a gentleman who asked if i had loans, mortgage, car finance, insurance policies etc to which i said yes. He said he would get someone to ring me back. 5 minutes later a very nice lady called Fiona rang me back and asked me numorous questions with regards to companies who have provided me with loans, mortgages etc and then informed me that these companies have mis-sold me PPI. She said i can pay them £200 for them to request information from these companies and sort out reclaiming my PPI, she said if i am not financially better off after it then my £200 will be refunded. She has sent me an email since and said she will put in the post copies of what we have discussed ans she will ring me on Friday morning to see if i want them to work for me in reclaiming PPI. Has anyone else had this? I'm aware it has been in the news recently about companies mis-selling PPI but i'm worried this may be a scam. She said they are regulated by the FSA. How can i find out if this is a genuine way of reclaiming PPI? Help!
Regards
Sally

Hi and welcome
I would be careful to be honest, and I understand this is very common with claims companies to say the same thing to everyone.
If you were mis sold PPI, you can do this free from help from this site, and lots have had problems using claims companies, not saying they are all the same, but they do the same as what we do on here and all we pay out for is for posting via Royal mail.
Also look at the link for more details and ask for any help if required.

With help from us you can claim ppi for a very small cost, a few stamps?
what more will the company do for £200? NOT A LOT:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
And you get to keep your win

then informed me that these companies have mis-sold me PPI.
So, she was able to see all the documentation the companies had and how they were sold to you and tell you that all in the space of a phone call? I would love her computer system! She said i can pay them £200 for them to request information from these companies and sort out reclaiming my PPI, she said if i am not financially better off after it then my £200 will be refunded.
yet all the companies that say that and have to end up refunding the money always seem to have small print that allows them to get out of it.She said they are regulated by the FSA.

Hi, my wife and myself have been getting calls from these guys a lot now, it's bordering on ridiculous.
Anyway, today they got in touch with my wife and told her that for a £200 fee they might be able to claim up to 8k for us. Sounds far too good to be true. Thankfully, she didn't agree on the phone, especially now that we've found this site and especially this thread!
I'm quite concerned as to what oldbutnotwise said in his last post, can any one else confirm this info or provide citation?
Very grateful for any help here!0 -

Hi there
I don't know much about claims companies, but as you're wife didin't agree and go along with it then that's cool.
I can understand it's a worry for some that may have been in this position, where many have had hassle from some claims companies.
Any concerns is to contact the details that oldbutnotwise have mentioned.

If you think you have a case for being mis sold PPI on any policies, check the details below on how to reclaim, there is also less paperwork to what I am aware of if you do this yourself and not use a claims company.
Also feel free to ask for help if required on the reclaiming, all the best.

Hi
I too was cold called one evening by [TEXT DELETED BY FORUM TEAM] and a very charming and efficient lady (who caught me at a very bad time!) managed to sweet talk me into paying £200 there and then in order that they "work for me for one year" and likely to reclaim me over £6k. Although I am usually very wary of this sort of thing and give it short thrift, for some reason, I went along with this one and boy do I regret it now!!
Not only are they disorganised and poor communicators (terrible letters which are so vague or badly put together that you have to sit waiting on the phone to them to find out what the hell they mean!), they are difficult to get hold of when you want to speak to someone but constantly hassling me day after day when they want to try and sell me a new financial product which they claim will save me so much money. As far as the mis-sold PPI is concerned, so far they haven't been successful at all in reclaiming a single penny for me! I don't even think I WAS mis-sold PPI but they assured me at the beginning that I would've been and that they had the skills to get it out of the companies involved. When they found me a different deal for my home insurance and I decided not to take it in the end but to organise a new deal off my own back, they got quite aggressive and even slightly abusive - I guess because it meant they were missing out on whatever commission they were due to get.
They take a flat fee of £200 for the 'pleasure' of using their services and then 25%+VAT on any money they manage to reclaim for you. It's a total joke!! But the joke is on me as I fell for it and now have no understanding of how or if I can get out of it and salvage any of my £200 back! Also, they now are in possession of ALL my and my husband's financial details - credit cards, mortgage, loans, pensions - the works.
I feel very stupid for getting myself into this but would appreciate any advice from anyone out there in the know as to what my rights are in this case or hear from anyone in a similar situation.0 -
Hi,
Just wanted to share with you my experiences of these guys. I was cold-called from another company in Wales called c-c-s (website now unavailable). It was this company that charged me the £200 for "assessing my claims". 2 out of 3 claims were judged to be valid so the details were passed to [TEXT DELETED BY FORUM TEAM].
I needed to write a few cheques for the release of my personal details under the Data Protection Act and Freedom of Information act, and then I was sent the full financial ombudsman form to complete, even though CCS claim to have sent all my details to [TEXT DELETED BY FORUM TEAM]. I agree the letters are very bad from [TEXT DELETED BY FORUM TEAM], and their headed paper seems to be a colour photocopy of the original with their logo.
Now a year after the initial call I received, and now the High Court bank judgement has been made in the UK, I have now received notification that the first of my claims is successful and I am waiting for the payment to be processed. I will then owe them 25%+VAT of my claim payment.
It's a shame I didn't know the process before being cold-called, as I could have saved myself the initial £200 to CCS and the commission payments to [TEXT DELETED BY FORUM TEAM], especially as I had to fill in all the forms they sent myself, but it seems to have had a happy ending for me.
So my recommendation is to buy a book of 1st class stamps, download all the forms, be prepared to send a few letters back & forth to your bank/provider to obtain all the account information you need for the ombudsman claim form, and do it yourself! Keep a copy of all letters you send, and be patient... apparently there is a huge backlog of claims that the banks are working through, but the press has reported that the banks have set aside a large budget for these claims.
You aren't allowed to claim twice though, so if they call back, I suggest telling them that you have already claimed. It has worked for me so far.0 -
I needed to write a few cheques for the release of my personal details under the Data Protection Act and Freedom of Information act,
freedom of information act doesnt apply to companies (just for reference in case anyone reading decides to use that)and now the High Court bank judgement has been made in the UK
which indicates yours was a PPI complaint and explains your comments on why you wish you had done it yourself as it really is that easy.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
