YouGov deducting points when you take surveys

YouGov deducted 50 points off me for taking part in a prize draw survey - apparently it's so they can offer bigger prizes.

However, it seems to have a completly illogical process - collect points by taking surveys which you can then use to take more surveys, which by taking part in you might win a prize.

If you could redeem 10 points against a competition entry with a big prize without taking a further survey that would make sense but the way they are operating now is a joke.

I almost fell for it now they've changed the end page after you've completed a paid survey. There's a load of waffle about entering a prize draw, and it tells you know many points you've earnt for the survey you've just completed. It says that you can use these points to enter the prize draw (by clicking 'yes please'), or save your points to be added to your total (by clicking 'no thanks'). I have to double check each time now to make sure I click 'no thanks' as the reason I did the survey in the place was to earn points towards my next £50 payout, not to enter a prize draw!
Sneaky way to make you take even longer to reach payout!

it asks you if you want the points in your account OR to use them for the prize draw. (you cant have both)you must have agreed to the prize draw. easy to do as I did the same a few days ago, whereas today I said no to the prize draw so they went into my account. just down to personal choice really.

So say no next time. They're not forcing you to take part.

I got caught out once but carefully read the blurb afterwards and always opt out now.

It's not a joke, they've changed the system and you weren't careful enough in your checking.

It's not a scam. I've been with Yougov for years and have never had a problem with them. As the others have said above, just learn to read so that you click the right button at the end of the survey...

You're talking about something different. I had 3950 points and received an invitation to take part in a survey with a prize draw and after I had done the survey they deducted 50 points from my account so I had 3900 points, so they charged me 50 points for taking a prize draw survey.

Like everyone else who's replied you've made an incorrect assumption. I did say in the original post that they've taken 50 points off me, not that they gave me a prize draw entry instead of 50 points.

The joke is them charging you points to take surveys.

Last time I did a prize survey they gave me 50 points and then deducted 50 points so it evens out, so what you've said doesn't sound right.

Yup, having the same problem - and no option to opt out. I did get a message a while back saying I could "opt" for entries into the prize draw instead of points - but I don't want this, and yet they seem to mean "force" rather than "opt". I just noticed I've paid 250 points for the privilege of answering their prize draw surveys.

This has only happened recently, as I'm approaching my 5,000. I have e-mailed them about this, as it seems a sneaky way of ensuring I'll never get my next 5,000. I don't do it just for the money, but it's pretty underhand and not good form

How? I've been "charged" 50 points five times now, and never had the option to answer "yes" or "no".
