Kenwood Chef - Old or New?
Comments
-
According to this page the food processor can ONLY be used with the KENWOOD Chef or Major models KM001 - KM008.
I can only suggest that you think about which attachments you definately want/need and read about them here http://www.kenwoodworld.com/uk/product_category.php?cat=269, and work it out from there. Perhaps draw up a table and cross reference attachments with models or something. I know it sounds like a drag, but you don't want an expensive mistake.0 -
All of the A901 and newer attachments fit all the A901 and newer Kenwood Chefs - the gearbox has the same outlet shape on all of them, regardless of model or power. The only thing you would have to make sure of is that some are for a "Major" only and some for a "Chef" only but they should clearly say "for major only" so you won't get confused. Majors are just bigger capacity versions of a Chef.
The really old Chefs - A701's - have attachments specially for them, they start in 7XX rather than 9XX if that makes sense? If you were buying new it wouldn't matter, as the A701 attachments are no longer made.
If you want the food processor than you are going to have to buy one of the more expensive models - the KM001 - KM006 are the only ones it will fit. I am not sure about the KMC550, I could not find any info about it taking the food processor but it looks like the same sort as the KM001...? info
If you are going to get the KM310 or similar new chef model, the new mincer, sausage maker, ice cream maker and pasta maker will fit it, but not the food processor. Try to find a deal where some of the attachments are included in the price, as they aren't cheap to buy separately.
Hope I haven't confused you more!!!:o:happylove0 -
Thanks Thistle and Addis, that is really helpful. I think that for the massive difference in price, I'd definitely be better to settle for the 310 and just buy a separate processor. You've unconfused me thanks Thistle, cos now I just look for any attachments which are 9xx UNLESS they say 001-006 only?
Thistle, do you know anywhere that does such a deal as you describe with attachments? I've only seen an offer with a free liquidiser attachment, that one's available in a number of places such as coopelectricals, woolies and argos.0 -

let me have a little scout around - I have seen them before with the mincer, which would probably be more useful to you. The brand new mincer has a sausage maker adaptor with it as well.:happylove0 -
OMG now I'm even more confused - do Kenwood do this deliberately to overwhelm poor brains, is this a genetic cleansing routine????
A980 Chef/Major Attachment can ONLY be used with the KENWOOD Chef or Major models KM001 - KM008

nope - only with the models listed above. That's the only attachment that is model specific, as far as I know. It looks like a neat attachment, too bad as it won't fit mine either...:happylove0 -
Ah I think i've got it now, the 01-06 is also actually a kind of Chef and the Major is called the major rather than a model number? It's just random that the chef model number was listed after the major?0

umm, no, it's more complicated then that!and I don't think I can explain it properly but I'll give it a go! In the old versions, the A701 was a Chef, the A707 and A717 were Majors. The A901 is a Chef, the A907 is a Major. It gets a bit trickier with the KM series.
The Kenwood Chef (all models) has a 4.4 - 4.6 litre bowl, and the Major has a 6.7 bowl.
So if you look here: KM005 it makes no sense as it is clearly a Kenwood Major (6+ litre bowl) but is listed as a "Kenwood KM005 Chef mixer".
I can't imagine you would want a Major so try to find a model you like with the smaller bowl and it will be a Chef. I don't know if this even makes sense.
The KM310 is def. a Chef and the food processor definitely will not fit it. The KM001 is def. a Chef and the food processor will fit. If you look here:KM001 they are selling it with a "free" food processing attachment and glass liquidiser and some baking trays.
I've probably confused you even more now.:o:happylove0 -
HI
Many thanks for all the replies, I have finally decided after deliberating ALL week on this one that I will get the KM001 package with the food processor as I was thinking of getting rid of my very old food processor to make room for this.
Also, the food processor attachment says it has 3 cutting discs which is all I really want the processor for.
Off to hunt for the best deal!
Best go and order it before I change my mind!!!
Thanks again
JOStarting with a clean slate.
