Declined for sainsbury nectar card

Reason given was my previous credit card repayment history does not meet their Criteria.

I accept they can lend to who they want based on their own specific criteria, so fair enough. But just a little bemused .

I have had according to my credit report with experian, which is the agency they used, 31 different forms of credit over the last 8 years since I started working at 18. Each one is up to date or settled and none have ever been late or missed whatsoever, my score was 999 (although I know this doesn't matter before the generic reply arrives)
But it does show my credit can't be too bad. And it said my score is better then 71% of the uk.

A few of my cards over the years (now settled) have been out of promotion so they have made good money off the interest from me and always over payed etc.

So who would be they ideal customer? Is it worth trying to speak to someone ? Not bothered if they gave me a genuine answer , but the above repayment excuse seems false. No is false IMO .

Cheers

Repayment history does not just mean that you have paid on time. It also takes into account how you have paid - i.e. amounts on previous credit cards. Full balances each month or partial balances or just minimum payments.

Something within this does not meet with what Sainsburys see as a good potential customer. You obviously from the sounds of things have a good solid credit history, so just try somewhere else. As you said, they can choose who they want as a customer and unfortunately it is just not you on this occasion.

Sainsburys give more information than most with decline decisions, so at least you know why with them rather than the general, 'credit scoring is fair blah blah and you have not scored high enough'.

Do you currently hold, or have you held fairly recently, a BoS run credit card?

How many times do I have to say this YOU will NEVER know your credit score EVER.

I wonder if it is the number of applications, even if they were all successful. 31 seems like a lot imo, even over 8 years. I would think I have something like 10.

Mainstream lender like sainsburys can obviously pick and choose their customers and unfortunately the winkshow failed sainsburys credit scoring which mean they don't want him as a customer.

And yes 31 seems a lot IMO.

They will however continue to sell you milk, bread and other day to day comestables.

I thought the Nectar card was for getting points on your shopping?
Did you mean a Nectar card? Or Sainsbury's credit card?

Agree with others in this instance the OP doesn't seem to fit their criteria.

For me the only time I have been turned down for credit was with Alliance and Leicester. I have been accepted by all other lenders I have gone for including Egg, Tesco, Virgin, Halifax & Natwest.

I obviously just never fitted the A & L (now Santander) criteria.
