o2 HELP!

I have a contract with o2. I never use it and it was silly of me to fall for the "We'll give you it £100 and reduce you tariff so you wont have to pay for it this year" ploy, when I should of just cancelled it.

I looked at my account this morning and they credit my account with £100 in July like they said they would, but never reduced my tariff!!

So after this month, I’m going to be paying £29 for a phone I haven't used in almost a year.

I've been with them for about 3 years, can I cancel my contract? Or did accepting the £100 back in July tie me in for another 12months?

Anyone suggestions?

  • Hiya,

I've just done the same thing with O2. When they said they'd reduce your line rental what was it they quoted you? Half-price?

Mine was £30 and they said they'd give me half-price line rental. However, by accepting this you are bound to another 12-month contract with them; you do have a 14-day (I think) period in which to change your mind, but as you're past this I think the only way out is to pay off the rest of the twelve months.

Are you sure you didn't miss the reduced line rental (I did first time I checked). The way they do it is that on your bill they will show:

    Network Services....
Line rental charge from X October to X November.... £24.75
    ...etc. etc....

    then further down:

    Other Charges and Credits...
    Half price line rental..... -£12.38

and that balances it out at the end.

If they haven't done this ring them up and tell them and you should get it back. I often think O2 are fiddling me but most of the time it's because their billing system confuses me

    Good luck

Hi thanks for you reply, no i'm well out of the 14day :)

Looking at my bills, the first one after my £100 credit had half price line rental, but the rest have not.

I might just ring up and contest it. Also whats the lowest priced contract they do?
  • Definitely worth contesting I think.

I think you'd be able to change tarriff if you want, just ask them when you ring up. On my bill it says I can change once a month. If you got your phone from an o2 shop, the cheapest one is O2 '50' at £19/month with 50 cross-network anytime minutes/month and 25 messages.

If you bought your phone online the cheapest is £25/month with either 100 anytime any network minutes and 500 messages or 500 off-peak minutes and 500 messages

However, there may be other newer tariffs just ask when you ring them.

Oh and don't forget - ask them to cancel your itemised billing! It will save you £2.50 a month and if you want you can sign up to the accountmanagement website where you can view your last 3 months itemised statements for free!

Honestly, with the vastly better online tariffs and pointless itemised billing charges I wonder why I stayed with them :)

  • I originally got my phone via staff contracts at DSG.

I'm signed up with accountmanagement already, but I can every single bill I’ve ever had with them!! But I get free itemised billing anyway.

I will just ring contest that I never got half price line rental like the girl said I would.

The bottom line is, I should of cancelled it when it ran out!!

    The accountmanagement says

    Line Rental Charge from 18 November 2006 to 17 December 2006 12.77
    Multimedia Messaging Service from 18 November 2006 to 17 December 2006 0.00
    300 Message Bolt On from 18 November 2006 to 17 December 2006 11.91
    Total 24.68

I'll cancel my 300-text bolt on which they charge me £12 a month for
