mobility car (another question)

hi all i have another question regarding a mobility car

12th jan i was awarded high rate mobilty nothing for care part of dla so i went and ordered a mobility car (suppose to pick this up tomorrow hopefully)
my mobilty allowance was awarded for 2 years then reapply, mobility car is on a 3 year contract i mentioned this to the guy that dealt with me at the dealer place and said it shouldnt b a problem but i have a niggling doubt that if they turn me down for mobility after the 2 year do i have to pay for the car myself for the 3rd yeat?

thanx

  • no, you return it when your DLA ends you can also keep it while you are in appeal if you decide to do so but if you fail will be cherged for use of it during that period.

    Mobility scooter?

    Or Motorbility leased car?

If the latter, you ring them if your DLA is withdrawn. Depending how long is left on the contract you can either pay the monthly lease fee yourself or return the car.

You can return the car when your motability ends with no penalties. When you get the car have a good look at it and make sure it is the model you ordered. Plus check who can drive it and when. No-one else is allowed to drive unless you register them as additional drivers and there are rules about when they can drive, so you cannot lend the car to your daughter to go on holiday without you for example. If you intend going abroad you must inform them and probably pay for a green card.
The above may be out of date as we have not had a Motability car for several years but worth considering.

    wrong.

when your high rate mobility ENDS, so does the motability part of the car. you can keep the vehicle whilst under apeal but you will be WARNED that in the event you are turned down at tribunal you will have to return and PAY for the use during that period or you can hand back the vehicle, and re-order a vehicle if you get awarded high rate again.

dont know who told you that but if you post this in benefits they will tell you that you dont get a years worth of free use!! they would lose £2000 or more in one single vehicle. post in benefits the same question, i maybe wrong but from what ive been told and read, as soon as an award for DLA is stopped the motabilty scheme can request the car returned as soon as possible, they may allow you to keep the during the appeal process but if you fail you will have to pay the outstanding lease on it, wich my advice is to hire purchase the car so your buying it to keep not to change every 3 years. with lease you do have an option of buying the car but all the payments your dla has put into it dont count and the price will be as what its current value would be.

please post in benefits to confirm if you wish or contact MOTABILITY direct themselfs for info not the dealer because they would like to make money off you and the DWP.

Sorry, I'm confused, what exactlly did Knightstyle say was wrong?
