Being discriminated Against
Comments
-
It's all a bit mental. Quite a few times, my partner and I have arrived at a hotel to find they've assumed we made a mistake when asking for a double room, and have provided two single beds, and it feels a bit awkward going down to explain, so most of the time we haven't bothered.
I can see why same sex groups aren't allowed, but then, when I was young I had a group of friends of all genders and we could raise hell just as well as when I was just with my male friends or just female friends.
Where does discrimination end? Do we discriminate against the young, despite there being many respectable younger people who want a quiet holiday... it isn't just the young who can cause trouble, after all.
Do we discriminate against straight people by saying that the only exception to single sex group rules are if you're gay?
Do we discriminate against gay people by saying only straight couples are allowed to share?
If campsites and hotels only took bookings based on individual circumstances, I imagine there would be many complaints about how awkward it's become to book a hotel.
I know I'd hate having to prove that I AM in a civil partnership and to then attend an interview to determine whether I'm likely to throw up in the bins or not.
I can see that there is a problem, but I can't think of a practical workaround for the owners of those establishments.
Large un-refundable deposits.. you want to stay as a same sex group? Fine, but pay a 250 quid deposit up-front. Returnable upon checkout. Deposit is not refundable if several complaints are made about the group.0 -

Why can't establishments make non-discriminatory policies? It can't be too hard
Wasnt it something similar that was just heard at the european courts with regards to car insurance? That it was gender discrimination.

What i mean by similar is that insurance give lower quotes to younger women and older men (doesnt mention that in the article i posted, i just remember hearing it on the news as older women are more likely to be involved in an accident than older men and younger men are more likely than young women) based on risk. Hotels wont accept same sex group bookings as theres a higher risk of them being trouble/disturbing other guests. You keep using that word. The thing there is that men vs women can be considered gender discrimination, or sexism
There is no law discriminating between single people and groups, or groupismOne important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0 -

Ah no, i wasnt referring to that. Just the 4 gay women as opposed to 4 straight women vs straight couples.
4 gay women who were just friends i would say fall under the group rules. But 2 gay couples who happen to be of the same sex i would class as 2 couples and not a same sex party (even if they were all the same sex - if that makes any sense? Sorry, having trouble putting my thoughts into words, had a blinding headache since last tuesday and i've only slept 23 hours since last tuesday also so forgive me if i'm not being clear). You keep using that word.
