Argh busses!

OK, I'm NOT complaining about the busses - well one I am, but I'm just having a rant, no need to reply.
Basically, I had a training course to go on yesterday for 9.30am, and I left my house at 6.55am to catch the 7.08am bus outside my house. Thought I'd wait there longer than needed because I didn't want to miss it and be late.
Anyway, 7.20am and it's still not here! So I walk towards town and THEN the bus b!oody drives past me! SODS law!
So I'm angry with the Huddersfield bus to town.
Anyway, I manage to get into town to catch a bus to Leeds for 7.45am. I don't go to leeds very much and because I was in a worry about being late, I caught the first bus going - big mistake! If you're from around here, you'd know that the X6 is a limited stop bus and halves the time than other buses to Leeds. So it's MY FAULT that I caught this other bus which I was sat on for 2 HOURS!!!! Plus I get travel sickness, so not ideal but I managed to control it
Got to Leeds, and I've got to catch another bus for another 6 mile journey, and thought 'forget this' and caught a taxi
Another £11 on top but I was so late already and getting myself into a pickle.
Finally got there for 10.50am! So my plan to leave early for the 7am bus went to pop.
3 hours to get to my destination! I NEED A CAR!
Journey home took me 1.5 hours so that was better
Caught the X6 which was an hours journey.
Anyone else had horrible travel days on important meetings/courses/first day at job etc??
Share perhaps??
I'm better now
Just wanted to voice it to anyone who would listen lmao

You poor thing!
I find all the buses awful around here though (Leeds). Would the train in not have been easier? About 30 mins I think on the fast train Huddersfield-Leeds (just checked - some trains are just 20 minutes!)0 -
Thetrain is only 20 minutes between Huddersfield and Leeds.Maybe give that a try next time
I used to go from 3 miles out of Leeds centre every day to 3 miles outside of Huddersfield and it used to take an hour in total0 -
Don't know if you are old enough to remember the deregulation of the buses in the 70s/80s? It was supposed to introduce competition and thus improve the service. However, before deregulation, we had 3 different operators in our area but now there is only one, Stagecoach, so there is less competition now and they can run the buses to suit themselves. Furthermore, it is public money (in the form of operating subsidies and even putting up the money for new buses) which keeps them going, so what was the benefit of deregulation?0

Plus they cancel the less profitable routes. At least when they were regulated the more popular routes subsided the less used ones. It was great. As a kid I could go anywhere in South Yorkshire for 2p."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

Did you catch the 229? That's an epic journey - I had the pleasure of getting on that bus by mistake once.
Funny how they used to advertise the X6 as an "Express" service and then changed it to "Limited Stop" (any bus taking over an hour to travel about 20 miles could never be classed as an express service!)
There's also a train service that stops at every station between Leeds and huddersfield - takes about an hour. We used to call it the "Cottingley Crawler" (because it usually has to spend about 15 minutes stuck just outside Cottingley waiting for the faster trains to overtake it).
I've never been keen on the fast train though, feels like a cattle truck during peak hours.0 -

It is far quicker to take the train from Huddersfield to Leeds, but it is very crowded at peak times. :eek:0

I feel your pain! Not work-related thankfully but I recently had the delight of travelling from Warwickshire to Shropshire. I got two trains, one to Birmingham and the next to Wolverhampton. I was making good time and managed to catch an earlier train to Wolverhampton so I stopped off to get myself a drink for the long bus journey ahead (about an hour long). By the time I reached the bus stop I was in for a 20 minute wait... and 20 minutes later my bus was yet to be seen  I decided now would be a good time to check the timetable, although I'd already viewed it online and had written down the time- I was having to catch the last bus of the day because I couldn't get there any earlier. It was a totally different time, earlier than stated on the Arriva website! Suddenly I see my bus hurtling down the road and I throw myself between the two buses already at the stop to get the driver's attention. But the g!t is clearly in a rush and drives past me before I can jump into the road (and even then he probably would have only stopped after I'd been crushed under his tyres).
Luckily for me after some pleading and whining about being stranded in Wolverhampton on a Friday night I got a lift there, by which point I'd been freezing at a bus stop for a good hour. The only other option would have been to go back home and try again in the morning. I was furious and emailed a complaint to Arriva which has conveniently gone ignored.0 -
ha, yes I think it was the 229 - something like that, bay Z.
Yes I wish I had caught the train, I would have as I wanted to get a Bus and Train metro card only to be told at the last minute by a few people that they never sell those before 9.30am
Thankfully, I don't have to go back in the near future, but I've surely learnt my lesson lol.
And yes, I can now laugh about it
At least my iPod was still working:beer: Thank you to everyone!

Come to London...we have hundreds of buses!
They're all smelly, filthy, packed solid with kids riding around all day with their bloody free Oyster cards, slow, broken, have unspeakably rude, maniac drivers, are covered in graffiti, and the heating only works in the height of summer.
Lovely! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:"I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"0
