Hi all,
Just asking as l have this question every year :rotfl:
Do you eat a small main course before your pancakes or just have a load of pancakes for tea?
It bothers me that there are no vegetables involved :rotfl: don't mention savoury pancakes these things are made to have sweet fillings!!
Or do you just go for loads of fruit and sauces, ice-cream etc? Doesn't seem too healthy but then l suppose it's only one day.
We had PRECISELY this conversation with my OH this morning.
I said it and he said we can have savoury ones then. I told him exactly what you said, then we looked at each other and went "just sweet pancakes for tea is fine with me!!":rotfl::rotfl:
Probably just cinammon and icing sugar and lemon and sugar on mine..0 -
When I was a child we used to have pancakes for tea, but it takes so long to make enough for everyone, and mum always gets hers last! Will be doing normal tea and maybe a couple each as pud.Debt free as of July 2010 :j

Out of habit we have them stuffed with spinach and feta or ricotta or goat's cheese and with a tomato, onion, carrot, celery and garlic sauce, sometimes with cheese...parmesan, cheddar...whatever we have. Stuff the pancakes, roll them, bake them with th sauce and cheese over till its all melted and steaming. You can then have sweet pancakes afterwards guilt free. You can make make a huge stack of pancakes through the day and prep later too. Pancakes store and reheat well.
That is eaxctly what I am doing today! I was going to do corn pancakes (American style) with bacon and maple syrup for breaskfast but a terrible night with DS in our bed put a stop to that as we were all too tired (well DH and I were anyway)
I have a lovely stack of about 15-16 waiting in the kitchen, which will probably diminish to about 12 by dinner time.
Happy Pancake Day!:rotfl:0 -
The smell of the oil is the only thing that does put me off ( i have to wash my hair after as it smells horrible !) but then thats probably a good thing or I would be cooking them all the time0

We're having quesadilla's (with potato wedges) for our main course, then pancakes for 'afters'. It's all round, flat food in our house today.0

We're having savoury pancakes as the 'main' and we'll have them with bacon, chicken, mushrooms, peppers and onions with sour cream. Then sweet ones with various toppings (maple syrup, bananas & chocolate sauce, raspberries and ice cream) for pud.
Bizarrely we like the savoury ones better in this house, it's mainly only me that has more than one sweet one. The girls would have pancake with chicken, peppers and sour cream every day if they were allowed!0 -
I couldn't even think of having anything else alongside the pancakes as just find them sooo filling!
Always try to eat as many as I can to feel that it's been worthwhile having them. Usually by end of number 3 I am bursting, there is no way I could have a starter first!!
And all those people who've posted and said they'll have a big meal like a curry followed by a few pancakes, I can't imagine how you possibly manage lol0 -
We are having bacon and onions in pancakes to start then on to nutella, golden syrup, lemon etc (not all at once!)0

I suspect it's ok if you are used to having a dessert.
I will prob cook something savoury for the kids and then they can have pancakes for pud (we don't do savoury pancakes) - I might have one to join in but I'm not that fussed with pancakes0
