Need a basic account with Visa Debit card

As titile really.
Going to open another account and leave my main Natwest one as my 'bills' account. I plan to transfer a set amount to my new account and that will be my spending money for the month'. I'm looking for an account that issues a visa debit card (not a cashcard or electron) and had a decent customer service. Any recommendations? I won't be apying a massive amount into it....say £300-£400 per month.
Due to there being branches nearby I was looking at Allied Irish and Lloyds. With Lloyds isn't the CS abroad? Ideally i want a bank that doesn't outsource jobs.
Suggestions welcome

The Co-op bank's Cashminder is a good account with a UK call centre. There might not be a branch near you though - their coverage is poor.0

Good call, also looking for a card for the exact same reason!0

This only has an electron card0

Do you mean basic in features or basic in terms of the government's definition?
Lloyds is good in my experience. I think you will find almost banks outsource some of their jobs, do you mean "offshore".
If not lloyds have you considered an internet bank eg intelligent finance? Or maybe nationwide? They both have a uk call centre and no minimum payment requirement.
Or if you only want to make purchases and cash withdrawals you could consider preloading egg money and earn interest on the positive balance and cashback.0 -
Yes sorry i meant offshore CS....all the talk of outsourcing jobs at work was obviously playing on my mind when i wrote the original post! Also i meant basic in terms of features. Don't want one of these fancy fee paying ones.
I think i'll go with Lloyds.....have a branch next to work and one in Wylde Green which is close to me so that would be most conveinient.
As for the co-op, don't they only offer an electron card on the cashminder account?0 -
Depending on what your credit rating is like - Nationwide?
They issue a debit card on their full FlexAccount that you could use abroad too at 0% commission

Thanks Kitey
I would like to think have a decent credit score. Never missed a payment and never been declined credit before on anything before.
Wil check out nationwide....0 -
If you have a decent credit score then Nationwide definately.

At the end of the application process (providing you get approved, which you should) it tells you what facilities you will be sent. ATM Card and Cheque Book in my case but I'm under 18.0 -
Woohoo! Just checked and there is a branch in sutton coldfield. I'll pop in tomorrow and see what they can do for me.

What would I need, a current account or basic bank account?
I want to have my current account I have now to have my money paid into from work and use it for bills, then have another sort of account that I can use to make general purchaes etc, but I need it to be a full visa/mastercard account?
I dont earn that much atm, £600 per month, so about £400 will be moved into the second account, but in January I will be going upto £920 per month.0
