I've had 3 DVD recorders, all were/are Panasonic & NONE have broken down.

Alright alright - you have given your opinion and it has been noted. Stop being a misery...

Most people would agree with it being a good deal. Manufacturer snobbery won't convince most pople otherwise...!

PVR is a recorder with only a hard drive.
So you are not able to make DVD discs.

The Liteon machine mentioned in the post above only records to disc. It has no hard drive.

I'd like to stress that what makes the original deal so good is that it has BOTH a hard drive and DVD disc recording.

There are many units available with one or the other for under £100 but the Mustek from eBuyer is the only one I've seen at this price with capability to do both.

    Don't be confused folks.

    Cheers, Wilf.

Sorry, slightly off topic, but are you going to make this your eleventh then Wilf?

    Hi sandybrag ,

I was just on the verge of opting to buy the Panasonic DMREX75 for £300-ish. Having seen this Mustek for so much less I may buy it. I may even buy as a gift for someone. Haven't quite decided yet. I understand Panny are the most reliable brand and after all the headache I've had I am willing to pay this much higher price. Having said that... £100 for the Mustek unit seems a total bargain and eBuyer has a good reputation for customer service should things go wrong.

    Cheers, Wilf.

There seems to be a lot of confused people on this thread! This is a HDD recorder WITH a DVD recorder in the same unit.

I bought a similar model 6 months ago and the cheapest (By far) at that time was £180. I would say this was a GREAT bargain and well worth it for anyone wanting one.

It's OBVIOUSLY not the best on the market, and there's always a big argument about freeview. But I could care less about a freeview tuner. I have Sky, and don't want to be robbed by them to the tune of another £10 p/m for Sky+, so this is a great alternative!

    PVR = Personal Video Recorder.
Don't read to much into that. I have a PVR card on my computer and all it does is allow you to manipulate the program you are watching i.e. Pause, rewind. Other than that its just a TV card, that by the way also takes other input sources.
PVR's have really taken off in the USA. You might have heard of Tivo. Unfortunately they have not over here but the most famous one is Sky+. They are very handy and if you have one you will probably wonder how you ever lived without it.

Well all DVD recorders will record from an external source & the better ones will record on to the - (minus) system thus giving a better chance of compatability with other DVD players/ recorders.

Mmmm.. If this machine writes + discs as DVD-ROM booktype (Bitsetting) they will be more compatible that '-' media.
