I have just bought a Blackberry Curve from Amazon and took out a 3 year warranty from Square Trade for £48.99. It doesn't cover theft but has accidental damage included, which is the reason we had to buy a new phone - water damage to a contract Blackberry that wasn't insured. Not a totally comprehensive policy, but seems good value for money nonetheless.

Lloyds Silver Account monthly fee works out about the same as stand alone mobile phone insurance and includes other. May be worth a look.

It's a common exclusion on a mobile phone policy but a home insurance policy would not normally contain this type of exclusion.

    Examples of claims.

The phone is in your jacket pocket at work or your trousers when you are asleep and a fire, burst pipe someone stands on it, house broken into etc etc

I'l grant you it's better than most other mobile policies which exclude theft unless force or the threat of force is used so they don't cover pick pockets or deception

If any insurance policy doesn't really want to pay out they'll be something in there to get them off the hook!

If it was in your jacket pocket it would class as on your person.

Plus if its a burst pipe then accidental damage would cover it with orange care unless you do something obviously stupid like leave it sat on a leaking pipe.

People say add it onto your house insurance but it only works out if you never actually claim who wants to claim on a house insurance policy when the excess will probably be around 50% of the phones value, and you can pretty much guarantee that the increase in premium in the first year after the claim alone will make up the other 50% let alone the years after you keep having to declare the claim.

Plus your house insurance wont be dealt with within a few minutes and a new phone arrive the next morning.

Same with off the peg companies or bank account insurance, they are all 'we will try and repair your phone', plus some banks packaged accounts cost more then £12 per month and don't provide immediate cover - example barclays (and i think natwest) you have to register it for 30days before.

From personal experience of putting mobiles through the washer, dropping them, standing on them, going faulty outside of warranty etc Orange have delivered me a new phone at the latest the next day with minimum hassle each time its been a 5minute phone call where you explain what happened and then you book a delivery slot for the next day for the new phone.

... By all means if anyone can show me an insurance policy for a mobile from a reputable company where my phone is covered for loss, theft, accidental damage (including water damage) where my phone is replaced within 24hours and never sent for repair or inspection and doesn't count as a claim which affects no claims discount (for example house insurance) and where cover is available immediately for less then £12 per month then please let me know.

I have looked and cant find anything that's even in the ball park for Orange Care (except some variations of O2 - but they have different levels and i have no experience with them plus it costs more). In the meantime if anyone is struggling with it i highly recommend them from my many experiences in the past.

I know i probably sound like a salesperson for it again i'm not convinced about Orange on the whole but the insurance Orangecare is one of the best things they do in my opinion, and i challenge you DaCouch or anyone else to find a policy that does all the above for less! (less then £12 for an iPhone or £6 a month for any other phone)
