What on earth has it got to do with the government what I spend in the supermarkets.

The information is sold to businesses such as Tesco, Sainsburys, etc to enable them to decide where to open/close supermarkets on the basis of profitability.

The questions were decided upon after discussions with the 'data users' (businesses, councils, etc) as to what information they would like to have.

As a pensioner myself I know that my NI contributions have not paid for my pension, it is the people of today who work and pay their NI who are paying my pension.

When I worked and paid NI it was for my parents/grandparents generation's pension.

Yes, I know I filled mine in yesterday and would endorse Nannytone that it should not be filled in until 27th March, but I felt like filling it in. Obviously it wont be posted until 27th.
I wonder how many will be lost in the house between now and then lol
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Just received two forms this morning. Thank God, it's nowhere as bad/long as filling in the ESA form :p One for Flat 1 and one for the ground floor flat (both applies to me). :o I'm thinking of filling it online.

Thanks Richie-from-the-Boro. They don't ask for diagnostic and all that details...otherwise I'd have to attach a 2-page worth of list :D

Ok, so I agree that some of the questions are unneccessary, but the government does need information.

How does the government know what budget to allocate for say public transport in a certain area, if they don't know who has access to a vehicle in that area and who doesn't?
How does the government know how much money to allocate to primary education in a certain area, if they don't know how many primary age kids there are in that area?

    etc etc etc.

To those of you who are going to shred/bin/ignore, I wonder if you will be the first to complain when there aren't enough buses/schools/doctors etc in your area, because the LA hasn't been allocated enough money because they didn't know they needed it?

What I intend to do is to fill in the majority of the form where I believe the questions are relevant. If I believe any truly are unneccessary and invasive (for example religion), then I will leave these blank.

save a little money each month? I'd love to but.....
Funny though, Pension Minister Steve Webb talks about pension
"There is a trade-off between the deficit and an aging population but you can't live on £97.65 [the weekly full basic state pension payout].

He admits that people cannot live on £97.65 but those on benefits receive less than £97.65.

I did ours. I know that we'll be here on the night of the 27th and that no one else will be here that night.

I am pleased about 2 things:

    1. There is no requirement for DH to be the 'head of household'. This is something that I've argued about for decades and yes, my first husband and I were threatened with all sorts of penalties if we did not return the form. Our reason then was that we were an equal partnership and did not want him to be arbitrarily appointed 'head' over me. There can be no 'head' in an equal partnership, same with the marriage I'm in now.

    2. For the first time I can state my nationality and ethnicity accurately, instead of being arbitrarily put down as 'white British'.

All personal information will be withheld for 100 years.

The only information passed on before then will be statistics - eg. in xxx county yyy people are without private transport, and so on.

gulp!! what land are you living in?

yes the 100 year rule is for the publication of the information for the general public to view.

Government departments access ALL of the information as soon as it is sent in - and certainly not in statistical form!

Oh I could tell you so much more but cannot for reasons!

I can't see that the information given in the census is going to enlighten anyone very much. All the important stuff - bank accounts, loans, driving licence, mobile phone information, passport details, marital status, children, insurances, television licence, etc, are already known by the authorities. I can't see how any of the extra information asked for in the census is going to put my liberty at risk!
