I came back to mine once to find someone had reversed into it, and the rear bumper completely off. Either they, or some other kind soul had then propped the bumper against the car- when it fell, it took off a bit of paint on the boot.
Wasn't too hard to fix up- only a bumper. But- how do you fail to notice you've hit a car?

I don't think some people do fail to notice that you've hit a car.
They just fail to be honest and own up to it.

Yeah, I know. I'd like to think the majority of people were honest, and cared, but after some of the damage I've seen in supermarkets to cars- watch a lady having an argument with a man just push the trolley away from her before they both got into the car and drove off, still arguing. Never mind that it hit someone else's car. Didn't take a reg though- Tesco's trolley pusher already had!

When I go for shopping at ASDA I always park at the far end of the carpark out of the way of other ppl`s cars, a few ppl have the same idea, usually ppl who really care about their cars. My mrs used to moan but she`s got used to it now.
Once I came back to my car a few years ago having been somewhere on the train, my car had been in the train station car park and somebody had reversed into the back bumper and cracked it. I was fuming. I checked for cameras and there was not a single camera anywhere, how is that possible in this day and age?
I remember once I was on holiday and had just parked in a car park, a guy nearby drove into a space and clipped the car next to him. Another guy came over and opened his door and said I hope you are`nt thinking of driving off. I saw somebody on my street reverse into another car and drive off so I wrote down the numberplate and stuck a letter under the wiper
  • I always try to park in a secluded area of the car park, but the Sainsburys near me is a small one and the car park behind it is the main pay and display for the town. You're lucky if you can find a space, let alone a secluded one!

It is nice to know that some people will look out for others and will take a reg number and leave their details, I wonder what happens to the offenders in this case, do they get done for leaving the scene of an accident?

I usually try to park in a secluded area but come back to the car to find someone has parked so close to me that I can;t open my car door to get in! I can never understand why they do it when there's loads of spaces to park in especially as they must have struggled to open their door!

I did have damage done to my car in a car park some years back but luckily had a witness who waited for me to come back to my car. Turned out the person who did the damage wasn't insured so no wonder they legged it. All got a bit messy!

Mrs V and the Vikingettes know of my predeliction for end parking bays, parking bays away from trees, parking bays without another car directly behind me etc etc. When we turn up anywhere I get the usual: "Park close!" whinge from them as I search out the best bay for minimal parking dingage. :D

    parking dingage

What a great way of saying it.

(wonders off thinking of how to use the word dingage in every conversation)
    Smart price rocks!

I had something similar to this where an elderly driver scraped down the side of my car trying to park. A young man in his 20s took down his reg number and waited for me to come out of the shop to pass on the details. As I was driving out of the car park, I saw the bloke who had hit my car parking somewhere else and confronted him. Stood next to my car as I pointed out the damage he had done and he totally denied being able to see any marks or dents! Unfortunately, due to this, I was unable to put this through my insurance as a "not disputed" claim and it took over a year for me to get my excess back.

I was slightly amused at the role reversal - in my mind, I would have expected better behaviour from an older person and worse from the younger one, but it was the young man who was great and saved me a lot of trouble. Makes me try not to be so quick to judge people.
I must go, I have lives to ruin and hearts to break :D
