    Provisional licence-display L plates
Full licence (after you've passed your test when you really learning to drive)= P plates - but displaying P plates are optional
    ;)

Except in Northern Ireland where... full licence (after you've passed your test when you really learning to drive)= R plates - but displaying R plates is not optional.

    Hi there,

Just wondering if someone can direct me to a website etc where I can download a free L and P sign for my car. I am on a provisional licence and my brother is on a learner licence.

Again not sure if the donwload verisons are allowed or should I buy the ones available from the supermarket?

    Thanks in advance
    Happy to oblige.

I have taken the liberty of knocking together a completely legal L plate which can be downloaded in .pdf format which will print accurately at the correct size providing you use the correct print settings.

    Here's the link:

You'll need Adobe reader to view and print it. It's available free here: http://www.adobe.com/go/EN_US-H-GET-READER

    Enjoy!

I hope you mean you have a new full licence holder and not a provisional.

Also if you have full licence and you've only just passed that your not acting as a supervisor for for him, as you need to been driving for three years to do so.

They have the same in France but I can't remember the letter.

I think they are a good idea but I would suggest there is a european standard using the letter 'N' as in most languages the work for new starts with an N i.e. Neu (german), nuevo (spanish), Nowe (polish).

Not sure who you're winking at with that answer, but the question was: "what is a learner licence" cf. a provisional licence. Nobody asked what an L or P plate were for.

OP, spend £1 and buy a proper reusable magnetic set. Good luck with learning to drive and passing your test.
