Real life MMD: Should I refund the Post Office?

Hi, my first post so excuse me if I make any mistakes.
Don't feel guilty about not refunding. The parcel was really late and they didn't refund the postage which is a cheek! I had a postal order go missing and they refunded the cost of it but not the postage and not the cost of the postal order (which was about £1.50 for a £10 postal order). Its nice to hear that a customer works out better off for a change. Take one for all us who've been ripped off by them!0 -
I would just keep it. They let you down and I think sending it back and reclaiming for lateness would just drag it out and be more of a burden. Not buying unnecessary toiletries 2024 26/53 UU, 25 IN0

Be honest and return the cheque. The postal workers had to clear huge backlogs at xmas. Nobody wanted your package to arrive late, cut them some slack.0

Come on Royal Mail, hurry up, I did the right thing by you here so do the right thing by me now!!
Update - got a book of 6 First Class stamps from Royal Mail today, as compensation for the delay. The system does work - slowly! I'm glad I didn't keep the cheque for loss when the parcel turned up. Karma and all that!0 -
I have had one international package go missing once before but apart from that I have sent over 100 packages out by 2nd class mail (as part of my ebay) and they have all arrived very promptly. I actually think it's probably better to send an item out 2nd or 1st class rather than recorded because the amount of people who do that just make losing the item or having it take an age more likely.
Saying that though, when I did ring royal mail to query about the lost international package I had a man talk to me like I was a child and hung on every word I said to the extent of being weird and annoying! I asked to speak to someone else and he just put me through to the start up menu which is 5 mins long to then get through to the same obnoxious man! But I did get compensation for the 'lost' item in the end which is all that matters.0 -
Morally and legally you should return the cheque now that the parcel has arrived. It does rather depend on the value of the cheque; if it roughly equates with the amount spent on postage or the amount that would be received in compensation if you now went down that route then it would seem to make sense to keep this cheque and save everyone time and hassle. However, if the cheque for the goods' cost is significantly more than the compensation then you really ought to return it, although it might be tempting to take a month to do that; treating them to their own service!0

This happened to me when I sent a parcel to France a few years ago. I claimed for the loss, was refunded but the parcel turned up 2 weeks later. I phoned Royal Mail and was told to forget it as it would cost them too much to process any returned money.0

Can RM prove delivery - ie did they obtain a signature on delivery? If so, you might be facing obtaining money by deception charges if you pay in the cheque - especially if it can be proven the cheque was paid in after delivery had taken place.
I'd return the cheque, a couple of pounds isn't worth the aggro imho. Some you win, some you lose.0
