Maybe they have added even more vegtable oil to the vegolate they sell in British shops and that's changed the taste?

I lived in Europe for a number of years, I find all of the stuff sold here to be fairly vile - not enough coco in it and too much milk and vegetable oil - I could completely understand why other European nations don't consider our stuff to be chocolate. However, having looked, the recipes haven't changed, so clearly it's the taste of people on here that has.

funnily enough, I had a Yorkie last night - first one for ages - and gave up halfway through as it was so sweet. Tasted like chocolate icing, rather than chocolate.

Aldi chocolate with hazelnuts is lovely.

I like Green & Blacks, or Hotel Chocolat.
  • Oh yes, I'm with you on this one. I've moved away from the likes of Cadbury's and Galaxy now and would rather treat myself to some chocolate from Hotel Chocolat.

    Yes me too.
I tend to get the 70% now - but soetimes you fancy one you've liked yrs ago - say a Mars or Bounty or similar - but all you can taste is sweetness. Do still like Maltesers - but I'm sure there's no need for such sweetness - unless its masking somethign else? I'm sure stuff never used to be so sweet.

who said cadburys recipe had not changed.......dont know if the same applies to the uk, but certainly describes the oily texture I noticed.

Cadbury Chocolate Slammed for Changing Recipe

"Chocolate maker Cadbury has been flooded with customer calls after it was revealed the company removed some cocoa butter from its recipe and replaced it with palm oil, claiming the change in recipe would not change the taste.

Cadbury Australia was quick to answer the call, with managing director Mark Callaghan saying: "We are removing palm oil and returning to a cocoa butter only recipe for Cadbury's entire moulded block chocolate range..."

One of Cadbury's staunchest critics, Hobart's Nina Middleton-Tubb, said: "If people can change chocolate, they can change the world. It is good that they listened to the fact that people didn't like it."

I can still eat Cadburys, but can't eat as much of it. 1 bar is plenty for me. I wouldn't be able to do a big bar of cadburys dairy milk.

I do like Green and Blacks, but rarely get it, it's a treat.
