Is it just me or have others noticed how sweet chocolate has become. ?
I used to love chocolate but now find it is so sweet that it makes my teeth hurt.
So no more chocolate for me.

Hi cooking mama, I'm going to the dentist on Thursday (regular check up).
I find with the most popular brands of chocolate that I no longer taste the chocolate just sugar. I remember smarties having a lovely chocolate centre. I had a few smarties over the weekend and no chocolate taste at all. Perhaps it is an age thing.

I am with you.
I am finding everything sweeter these days. There was a documentary on some time ago now saying that manufacturers are using more of the cheaper ingredients in our food to save on costs, and one of these is sugar.0 -
I've got really picky over chocolate now - just because the brands I used to enjoy are so sweet. Maybe the taste buds are changing or maybe sugar, being cheaper than cocoa, is used in higher proportions than before. I buy more expensive brands and have less of them:) There are lower sugar, higher cocoa recipes out there, and this chocoholic is dedicated to finding them!:rotfl:0

Thanks Poppyoscar, I do look at sugar content when buying foods but sometimes I wonder if the sugar content may be even higher than stated on the packaging. I have to say after eating smarties at the weekend I felt really sick.

We need names!!!
I like the milky/creamy chocolates like Milka and obviously Milkybar; they are very sweet but the extra milkiness makes them nice.
I also like dark chocolate though which isn't sweet, currently got a Bourneville Old Jamacia Rum and Raisin dark chocolate in the fridge which is lovely!!Trev. Having an out-of-money experience!
C'MON! Let's get this debt sorted!!0 -
Hi Bramley apple, I definitely think it's worth paying more for better quality and eating less. I think it's just a habit to pick up the chocolate bars I've always bought.

the 70 and 95% dark chocolate stuff in lidl etc are very good or failing that the coffee/amaretto swiss types in waitrose are really nice (but not cheap!)Unless specifically stated all posts by me are my own considered opinion.
If you don't like my opinion feel free to respond with your own.0 -
Thanks tbourner and timbo58, I will try some dark chocolate.

I just had some Giant Milkybar buttons (free!) and a Snickers maximum as my weekly reat. Both were very sweet, too sweet maybe. I think Dairy Milk is the best because milk is not as sweet as sugar and dairy milks largest ingredient is milk. Galaxy is too sweet. This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
