  • Try La Tania in France there is a hotel called Telemark there and they do weekend deals, its easy to get to fly to Geneva , Chambery,Lyon or Grenoble all available from low cost carriers. Pick up a hire car. La Tania is good for beginners.
  • I love St Anton, but wouldn't recommend it for beginners. Also, you can do quite a bit of walking (with skis!) or spend time on a bus, depending on where your hotel is.

For a weekend break, you want somewhere that's easy & quick to get to. You don't want to spend 3 or 4 hours on a transfer coach from the airport. Chamonix, for example, is only 40 minutes from Geneva - but NOT a resort for beginners.

Les Trois Vallees is reasonably close to Chambery - any of the resorts in LTV would be fine for beginners. In fact, many of the French resorts are much closer to airports than those in Switzerland & Austria. Some Italian resorts are readily accessible too.

You need to try a specialist ski travel agent for a five-night break, unless you are confident at arranging everything yourself. If you do DIY, then simply type the name of a resort into Google and you will generally find the local tourist office. Most in France have an English version of their websites and the staff generally speak good English.

Otherwise, try the ski travel agents like Ski Solutions - their website is worth a look, even if you don't use them.

If you're ski-ing in France in February, avoid the French school half-term week!!!
    Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac ;)
