I now hate spending!

I am invited to a 'Tartan Ball' this Sat.
I was all for saying no but the socialising side of my new spend less life is something that's gonna take a MASSIVE effort to combat!
The Kilt Hire is £53.
But I'm saying to myself that that includes a 10% discount that I found online.
PLUS it is prob about £70+ per head and I'm getting it free......
PLUS it's free drink when I would have usually spend about £100 on a night out anyway..........
So I'm telling myself it's OK because I'm getting a lot for what I'm spending.....still feel a bit guilty though!
A well I can drown my sorrows without it costing me anything! :beer:0 -
nicxx wrote:. For example I know that I'm going away this weekend so will need a book to read on the train. In the past I would've just grabbed something at the station for £7... now I'm going to go to Tesco/Asda in advance and get one for £3.73. Bargain! (Oh and then put it on Green Metropolis to sell it on for £3!)
:
How about getting a couple of books from the library nicxx? If you're away longer than you thought you can renew over the phone, so no fines to pay.
I was a demon for buying books but the library is for me now! x

I got taken over by the no spend bug when I first joined this site and it is a great feeling when you see debts reducing.
I hope you continue till you are debt free - but a word of warning....be aware that the novelty can wear off and old habits can creep back in. I am going through a terrible patch at the moment and can't see me ever being debt free to be honest (I'm hoping to pull myself out of this downer soon) so PLEASE, stay 'alert' for any dips in willpower and good luck in staying focussed!
Well done for doing so well though all you spender haters on here :T :beer:Bank Balance: In the black for the moment.

Thank you. I thought the library shut early but it's actually open till 8 on Thursday so I'll pop along... Checking online at the moment to see if they've got the books I want to read and will try to reserve them... unless that costs money!

Yeah I am a bit concerned that I'll get p****d off at not going out at the weekends and go on a bit blow out because of it, which will just screw me up for the rest of the month!
Might try to get a weekend job so I'm not sitting about.
Only thing I can think of is in a pub though, but I've got no experience (well, apart from being on the other side of the bar regularly!

Or you could just see what's there and surprise yourself by reading some different stuff. I've joined a book group and read things I would never ordinarily have touched, and loved them.
Well done you on cutting down your spending so drastically :TIf you can't be a good example, be a dire warning
MBNA charges and interest frozen
Egg/DLC repayment agreement reached

Try a pub anyway AquaPanther - you never know! If you are bright & willing to work, you just might get lucky.
And it wold be sort-of-very social (especially over Christmas) whilst you earn extra cash. Perfect solution.Bank Balance: In the black for the moment.

Thank you! I used to spend £10+ on food in Tesco Metro just for one day!! Drastic drastic drop in spending! This site is amazing! :T0 -

Aquapanther that is the most wonderful MSE comment I have read today - getting a bar job to keep you occupied at the weekends. Surely your contacts in the licensing trade would be willing to give you a training shift? Good luck with the kilted night out as well - sounds an absolute bargain to me.:)Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. I used to do barwork, great way of socialising without spending and get paid. Usually desperate for staff this time of year aswell. It's easy work and most companies willing to train, I did Real Ale first which was a challenge as we had some right fussy customers but was fun aswell, good luck with it.
Try charity shops for books aswell, I pay very little compared to RRP for them, usually give them back when finished aswell meaning they benefit twice so they usually let me have them cheaper. One day I might be more organised...........
